How long do batteries last ?

The unit stays on with little draw over a year and still working with original battery

They arrive already on. I wasn’t very happy about that. Who knows how long the battery will last. The only way you can turn them off is to remove the battery.

Is the probe waterproof?

Unless something is specifically listed for continuous immersion--assume it is not.
