Not very giftable because they're not "pretty" but MAN, can they cut
First of all, let me just say that I love these knives that I've purchased them twice now. First, about a year ago when I needed a set of steak knives to outfit my new kitchen. I thought these looked the most similar to my previous favorite steak knives that I've had and used for probably 20 years now - some microserrated, black plastic handled knives from Costco back in the day. When I took these out of the package, I was shocked to receive 6 loose knives just floating around a bubble mailer, as another reviewer mentioned. I thought, Hm...these must not be that sharp, since they didn't stab through the package in transit. I also thought that maybe they were knock-offs, but I proceeded to remove their protective stickers anyway and threw them in the dishwasher. I was dubious, but when they came out, they looked no worse for wear.Fast forward to cutting with these knives. They are, hands down, the sharpest steak knives I've ever owned. Sharper by far than the old set I was using. Way sharper than the fancy Henckels set that come in their very own velvet-lined wooden box that I was gifted. I've made many accidental cuts in my cutting board because these are so sharp that they slice right into wood without any kind of tactile feedback. Be careful with your fingers! You can easily get cut without even realizing it because the blades are so sharp. These have held up extremely well over the last year, so much so that I decided to order another set for all of my holiday guests to use. No, they're not pretty and don't have the wow-factor of a big wood-handled knife, but these will out cut any pretty steakhouse knife. Not only do they work well for meat, but I find myself reaching for them when I would otherwise be grabbing a paring knife. They're especially great for hulling strawberries with absolute ease or quickly slicing up a piece of fruit.I actually only decided to review these when I came back to purchase a THIRD set, but the price has gone up significantly since my last purchase (27 and 32 bucks for the last 2 sets, 40+ dollars currently), so I will wait until the price drops some.If you need steak knives now though, know that these are easily worth their current price and you will be purchasing a quality set of knives that will stay sharp for a long time to come.Edit 3.19.23:I've purchased FOUR sets of these now. 3 for myself, since I tend to entertain large groups and often need more than 12 knives, and one set for my mom to replace her old, dull steak knives. These are still the knives I reach for the most when prepping fruits or slicing things like tomatoes (omg, these are the BEST tomato slicing knives!) and they're just as sharp as ever. Cannot say enough good things about them.

Very Sharp
These are quality knives that come with a very sharp edge. I have not had any issues running them in the dishwasher. A word of warning though, the backs of these knives are sharp as well. I managed to cut my fingers pretty badly using my offhand to assist in cutting.

Super sharp
These knives are awesome! Some people said the handles are cheap. They are a little bit, but I am fine with that. The knife part if what matters. I have actually cut my finger twice just by picking up these knives. I will spare all of you from looking at photos of my cut fingers. My old knives all went to goodwill. Farberware, Tristar and chefmate (awful knives).Update 9/6/24Again, these knives are very sharp. My 23 year old daughter was attempting to poke an avocado pit out of an avocado and the knife slipped off the pit and she cut her finger. The blood was everywhere. She needed three stitches from urgent care and today she had surgery because she severed the nerve in her finger.I don’t fault the knife for her injury. Knives should be sharp. Be VERY careful with these.

Great knives
Victorinox are the best inexpensive Western-style knives in the business, full stop. If you like Western-style knives (mild belly, double-bevel) they're the best bang for your buck out there. These steak knives are no exception.Quality where it counts. These knives have cheap-seeming plastic handles, yet they're textured for good grip. They're also super sanitary. Do anything you want to them - they won't hold bacteria like wood might. The money saved in the handle is put toward higher-quality steel on the end that matters. The overall knife is light but durable, inexpensive but sharp. It's perfect for anyone who mostly only cares about getting a cheap, reliable set of steak knives.I fear a lot of bad reviews right now are people buying from knockoff resellers which are becoming rampant. Make sure you buy an authentic product (fulfilled by Amazon), or at least keep your packaging handy for a return. My last 2 purchases were both exactly the same products and quality as the Victorinox chef knife I've been using for that last... I don't know... 6 years? I'd have to check my order history. It's been forever and I've never had a complaint. I just got the 10" chef knife and the steak knives, and they're all exactly the same quality as the original.

Great knives, but terrible packaging by shipper
I love all Victorinox knives. However, the way these 6 steak knives were arrived taped with sticky shipping tape as seen in the picture, makes me want to give zero stars for the shipping. You can’t even gift them this way, because even after cutting and removing the tape, you’re left with sticky ugly residue on the knives’ handles. All they needed to do was place the 6 knives in the bubble bag.
