A Promise to Nadia: A True Story of a British Slave in the Yemen

this should never happen
This heart wrenching story should never have to be told. Through the courage of "Nadia" it is. WE feel the pain of a girl lost and sold into a culture she does not understand and that can never be her own. We see her struggle for freedom against unsurmountable odds. Nadia is indeed a modern day hero. We as a people need to open our eyes and look after one another so this thing can never happen.

inspirational and fascinating
"A Promise to Nadia" is Zana Muhsen's follow-up to her best-selling book, Sold . In her latest book she writes about her and her mother's plight to bring her sister home, out of slavery safely. The story is at times sad and even tragic, but it is also uplifting and inspirational. This is one of the most riveting and detailed books that I have ever read. I hope one day Zana will write a new book to update readers on Nadia. Anyone who is studying world events, geography and especially the Middle East will certainly appreciate this book.

For someone who read "Sold" about 10 times when I ...
For someone who read "Sold" about 10 times when I was younger, I was very excited to find out what happened to Nadia. The book was written very similarly to Sold, but could have gone into more details about Nadia

The writing is very poor and the book goes nowhere
The story is heartbreaking. I was hoping it was written to describe Nadia's salvation from Yemen. Not so. The writing is very poor and the book goes nowhere. The repeated description of how the author felt is annoying. Emotions, feelings are described ad nauseam.

Story of courage
Always good, though painful, to hear these appalling true stories. I had not read the first book, Sold, as I bought another by the same title, a fictionalized account of a Nepalese girl sold into prostitution, which was outstanding.

A heartbreaking story
I can't believe that someone had to actually live through what went on in Nadia's life. Nadia is a strong woman. It is very sad that many others go through what she and her sister had to endure. Definitely read the first book Sold by the same author.

couldnt believe that this kind of thing still goes on today
Her story is horrifying and sad, and this book and her first one (sold) both really capture the story, made me feel the annoyance and anger that Zana felt.book is great condition, excellent price and fast shipping

I had read the first book with great interest but I did not really like this second one. I was happy to get some news from "Nadia" but the author complains too much her poor financial situation. She talked about her little house her dogs and birds, and how difficult it was financially etc. I did not buy it to read about that! I personally only live in an apartment I rent, would LOVE to live in a house or condo, but not enough money, and really disliked ready about how "miserable" she was. The story of this second book could have been written in 10 pages that is it.
