Pure Carbon
Alright. I spend a lot of of time browsing the internet for cool, interesting skateboards. Things that I've never seen before. So far I've seen a board made from other boards. The company is called IRIS. They are absolutely gorgeous.Recently I came across another neat little skateboard company not many people have heard of. The company is called 121c. Whatever that means. I started reading more and more about the company and why their boards are so freaking expensive. I learned that the decks are actually made entirely from upcycled space-ship grade carbon fiber that would normally go into a landfill. It's an absolutely incredible idea. I also learned that the name of the company, 121c, comes from the temperature required to cure carbon fiber, which is 121 degrees Celsius, making it into a stiff, usable material.Onto the board. The Aileron is a very high quality, nicely finished product. You are definitely getting your money's worth when you buy a board from this company. It's the lightest cruiser/longboard deck I've ever held. I say cruiser/longboard because it is a cruiser that is long enough to be considered a longboard. At 31 inches long weighing 1160 grams, I consider it to be the lightest deck (respective to the size) I've ever held. Obviously it doesn't compare to a 20 inch bamboo cruiser in terms of weight, but with a board this cool, I'm not complaining. However, being handmade is always gonna bring some defects. I noticed upon opening a few slight blemishes on the bottom. Nothing performance altering. It's all aesthetic. But in the tail of the deck, some of the resin didn't fill in all the way. Again, purely aesthetic, I'll be the only person who knows it's like that.If you have a pocket full of cash and are in need of a fancy new skateboard, absolutely don't hesitate buying one of these. This board is definitely NOT for beginners. If you need a lightweight cruiser for under 100 bucks, go find a sector 9 that pleases you. I can almost guarantee you'll find one.If you have ~$300, get one of these. I can't think of a way to recommend it more than I am now.
