WORTH THE $$ AND SPACE IN YOUR CABINET!
I LOVE THIS THING!!! I almost always have a supply of hard boiled eggs in my fridge because they're basically a perfect food! It's a quick, on the go snack, or you can add it to salads, make a quick egg salad sandwich, whatever! I am a pretty good cook, but for some crazy reason, I COULD NOT make a hard boiled egg...I mean seriously...how freakin' hard could it be? I either wouldn't get them done enough, or I would walk away and forget they were on the stove...If you've ever wondered if eggs can explode, I'm here to tell you, they do, if you leave them on the stove long enough that the water evaporates. THEY WILL EXPLODE!!! Sadly I've done that twice! FAIL!!!! Then the other issue is the peeling part....UGH! By the time I would be finished peeling them, there was hardly any egg left. I tried all the tricks....salt in the water, baking soda in the water, fresh eggs, week old eggs, brown eggs, cage free eggs, organic, putting them in the oven in a muffin tin....I was literally a mad woman trying to master the hard cooked egg and finally, I saw this thing!!!! For the $13 or whatever it was, I thought I would try it! It is possibly my favorite kitchen gadget....EVER!!! So easy to use. Honestly, you could probably let a 5-year-old use it. You might have to oversee the egg piercing part. The egg cooker comes with a little water measuring cup and in the bottom of it has a little sharp point that you need to pierce the eggs with to allow steam to escape (otherwise more exploding eggs). You fill the cup to the mark (depending on if you want soft or hard cooked eggs), dump it in the black part of the cooker, place the egg tray on top, load your eggs, put the top on, hit the ON switch and WALK AWAY! It automatically shuts off when all of the water has evaporated. VOILA!!! Perfect hard cooked eggs. And they peel like a dream! Only bad thing, which I don't even care, at least one egg per batch seems to be over loaded on the white part and it will seep out through the hole that you've pierced, but that certainly is not a defect on this little magic tool! It also has the capability to poach and soft cook eggs. I have not tried this and probably won't just because I don't really eat eggs that way, but this is one of those things that I refer to as a "little thing, big love!!!" It makes me happy every time I get it out to make my eggs.. It will be $ well spent and worth the little bit of space in your cabinet or countertop.

Years of use
I've had this for a few years now. It has been trouble free.It also does a wonderful job hard boiling eggs. How it operates - Poke a hole in the eggs with the cup mounted needle (Surprising to me, the needle makes a clean hole and doesn't otherwise crack the shell.) and place the eggs on the egg tray with the holes up. Put the included cup measured amount of water, a surprisingly small amount, on the heating element. Put the egg tray and eggs on top of that and put the clear dome on top of the tray. Turn it on.And that's it.It turns itself off automatically when the eggs are done. And they are done perfectly. Now, as soon as you can put the eggs into a very cold (ice) water bath until they cool and they will peel easily, very fresh eggs or not it doesn't matter.Advantages - No more waiting for the water to boil, forgetting to put in the eggs, counting minutes, forgetting to take out the boiling eggs, getting over or under cooked eggs, forgetting to turn off the stove burner, etc... Seriously, no more hard boiled egg anxiety, minor as it may be, or frustration. Easy clean up, just wipe it off.Disadvantages - None.I see the new model has a buzzer. That's good and bad in that it disturbs the kitchen quiet but also reminds you when it's time for the cold water bath.Highly recommended.

Works great, but with reservations!
This is an interesting review to write. First off, I like this little appliance for poaching my eggs each morning. It is quite easy to use and it just takes a little experimentation to get the amount of water correct for the cooking time required. I have been far more successful in getting the eggs cooked as I like them with this device rather than trying to get them right with the cups in the microwave method. The only downside, and I think that it is a potentially serious one is that a few moment after shutting this off, it will turn itself back on for no apparent reason. Thus, you must remember to unplug it each time. I have the stainless steel one (because I didn’t want the loud alarm that other reviewers spoke about) Also, I did not notice that there is a big difference between the two stainless steel models. The model with the alarm is mostly all stainless steel, while the one without the alarm, most of the parts are plastic. Considering they are within pennies of one another in price, I don’t get it. Do I recommend it, it is hard to decide. The fact that it turns back on by itself is a worrisome safety factor!

Tried it several times and I am very satisfied. Wasn't sure what to expect but at this point very glad this is now part of our lives. I followed instructions to a 'T', starting with what you have to do before first use. I have so far tried it for soft boiled eggs and hard boiled eggs several times. Eggs came out as expected in both cases. Main benefits are that 1) hard boiled eggs would indeed be easier to peel 2) it stops cooking by itself once all water has been used (light indicator would have turned to off) - please note: it however doesn't turn off by itself; that's something you have to do once you come back to it. It is nice that you don't have to check it, or time it, and that you can actually completely turn away from it to attend other tasks and forget about it until only when you are ready, and then turn it off if the light indicator is off. I also like that there is no sound alarm. Good to know: I once used it for 2 small eggs with the prescribed amount of water for hard boiled eggs and it was too much: one of the eggs bursted open; I should have used slightly less water for that. Other than that otherwise I only had an occasional spill from 1 or 2 eggs but way less than what you can have when boiled in a pan. Also more like an exceptional occurrence. Also I was dreading having to poke the eggs but I find out it to be easier and faster than expected. Overall very happy with that device; it meets the expectations.
