I rarely leave any reviews here on Amazon, so I decided that I will rate this laptop. I have had it for a month now and it is running perfect! There seems to be a lot of bad reviews about it running slow, mine ran slow at first too. There is a little known problem with Windows 10 that causes the hard drive to be running at 100%, a quick Google search and I was able to fix the problem.Update as of 8/25/2018...This machine is still running great!! It has been one of the better laptops that I have ever owned. The only con that I have is that it is hard to see the keys if the backlight is on during the day, this is due to the keys being silver and the light kind of matching the key color. Other than that this machine was well worth what I paid for and them some!

This is exactly what I was looking for when my old Asus was dying. I love the reversible screen. There is a bit of a glitch in the touchscreen randomly clicking a spot in the middle of the screen, but a quick restart solves the issue. The restart is VERY quick

This was probably one of the most difficult purchases I have made. I am disabled and work from home and need my computer to do internet work. I have always said the most important part of the computer is the part that the "human" interfaces with most. Its not the keyboard or touch pad; its the display. I have literally gone almost blind in the last 3 years using a budget HP. I can only read my cheap HP display now and nothing else , paper, other computers etc. I realize that my eyes must have adapted to the bad display. I am hoping they return to normal now with this Asus. So, this was a priority when purchasing a computer. Also being disabled, I like to work on my deck, when its nice out. Many computer displays do not have enough nits to use in a out-door environment. As for comparison, I have experience with my budget HP and my wife's higher end HP envy 360 ( 2015) the envy has a beautiful display but its too dim ( almost too dim for indoor ) impossible for out-door. Its what made me look elsewhere. Of all the mid range laptops that have touch screens, this one seemed to have the best reviews for color and brightness excluding lenovo ( which doesn't have numeric keypad on their 15") I need a numeric for my spread sheet work. So, after reading many reviews from authority sites ( that didn't think much of this computer except display though dim but better than average) I was able to determine that this display is between 220-258 nits ( based on who is testing ) Where as my wife's envy is between 168-219. Well, this Asus is noticeably brighter, and in reviews was even brighter than the more expensive spectre. The text is crisper and the colors are richer than the envy as well. So if display is important to you, this is above par( maybe the best out there) as this price-point or even sub $1000.Moving on from the ever so important eye interface, the touch pad is by far the best I have ever used on the 7 machines I have used. And a lot less skittish than the envy hyper sensitive jumps. The back-lite keyboard is superior to the envy as well because its 3 level brightness - the envy is all or nothing. As for sound, this again is the best of all the machines I have used and beats the envy again. Actually, I have had bad luck with sound quality since my very first budget compaq - which was the best sound of all the machines i had owned. It had some high-end brand speaker though it was budget. So, sound, display, touch pad ( though smaller than the envy) - all superior for mid-range and in comparison to hp envy. The keyboard, I have to give that to envy, The Asus has a substandard size numeric pad. What is odd comparing to the envy, the space is there for a full-size one. As, for over-all quality, the envy is just slightly better feel and feedback. Besides the minified numeric keys, the only other real negative to the key pad is how far back-set the keyboard is from the front edge. Its way back there. It should be about an inch closer to the front. Not sure if this will affect much yet.On to build quality, the envy has a far more hefty and substantial build quality. However, this Asus is lighter and still solid. It doesn't seem quite as durable. We will see how it holds up. The hinges on my wife's 3 year old envy are still stiffer than the Asus out of the box. Considering the whole unit is lighter, it may make some sense.Performance thoughts, well the envy I use as a benchmark has a mechanical drive and I5 -5200 and 8gb. So we are almost talking apples to apples. I have not yet had a chance to open 10 programs(QB, excel, other accounting programs for business etc. and 100 browser windows and graphics programs I need for business. But, at first glance, I don't see anything unusual in slowness, like drives running all the time as other mentioned. I don't find any hardware issues, the dual band wireless speed is better than any laptop I have used. I have found nothing wrong with performance that suggests its not up to the specs under the hood. However, I see a windows Update is pending, It has not updated windows and it didn't do it during set-up; and I wish it never had to update. I am fearing the update. Which brings me on point - its not the machine that has issues its WINDOWS 10.. I consider windows 10 a virus. And there is nothing worse than having excel open with 20 spreadsheets open, and order management system open - QB and 10 PO's in progress, shipping program preparing labels....... GO to restroom or get coffee, come back all work ZAPPED by the virus , and computer rebooting saying windows installing updates.. ...In fact the last update of windows on envy - over-took the 2010 version of office - and defaulted all office files to use 360 which I dont own a license for. - and ther is no way to open or default an office file to use office 2010. basically those MS people killed my purchased software to make me buy new software.. I am not sure there are not some legal ramifications there. Anyhow, point. is don't run to blame the hardware manufacturer so fast. Windows is a "B%^$ " child. Most people buy new computers because their current machines become unusable - not because what is under the hood , but what the software updates do over time... Long story short , Very impressed with this computer. Its better than par for this price level. And its runs accordingly for what its hardware specs are. I do fear windows will destroy usability at some point, I will update later when I add an SSD and determine exactly if this has M.2 slot and what it supports. I need a T4 torx to get at it. I will also get a good active stylus and let you know how the screen works with that. One final note regarding quality, when I unboxed it - It had some glue squeezed out from the screen on the very left edge , I was considering returning it. However i was able to peel it out of the seem ( its about as tough construction adhesive ) - all is fine now. There was also a slight misalignment of the top when it was closed ( 1/8 in) I thought about the quality lacking.... then I examined the envy , it had it too, just slightly less, but it is 3 years old .. So you can take that for what its worth.Again, this is just a initial review. I have owned the machine less than 24 hours .. I am going to put it through some paces before upgrading to an SSD.UPDATE: Well 24 hours has passed all was fine up until about the last 5 hours or so. It has been a nightmare. I was with a brick or doorstop - which ever of the two is of better use to you. First, I was just working as normal had just finished setting up some emails accounts and installing thunderbird - I went to install chrome - and bam the whole thing locked up... never finished the install. All applications and functions inaccessible. I cant get open anything even task manager. I wait.. 15 minutes, nothing.. but I notice the hard drive light is solid - and the hdd is rotating but not a click about it. So since I cant even do a soft restart. I hard reboot and it gives me the Asus splash page. and again locks up no clicking solid hdd light. I am thinking HDD is trashed already. I wait just to be certain - after a half an hour on the Asus splash logo page, I do another hard reboot. This time i hear some clicking like it wants to load and then again all clicking stops and light solid and stuck on splash page. I reboot again - didn't wait half hour this time. Next thing I see is chkdsk notice. I key pass that.. and viola - there it is the dreaded windows is updating... blah blah blah. I wait 30 minutes for that to finish 2 restarts. Things load up but oh so so slowly - hard drive 100% - almost no functionality nothing can open.. cant even get the menu to open - or only with 2-3 minute waits. Yes really. So i finally get into the registry editor and kill MSI , you need to disable that . I would advise doing it before any update. Anyway I rebooted and had a much more functional machine and hard drive. But even though most things seemed to respond almost normal - HDD was still running like someone loading heavy files. Not sure if was windows update or what. Turning off wifi didn't seem to suppress the HDD activity. I did try to stop the update svc. That was unable to stop but said it was stopping and got locked on stopping without ever being stopped or restarted, even after reboot. I did uninstall antivirus previously to eliminate that as the problem. The only other thing I noticed, that seemed to use just a small amount of disc at times was dashline.. I unistalled that - and disk usage returned to 10% or less. My advice, disable MSI in the registry and DONOT install dashline. Basically all this has ruined a really nice machine - Even though its working much better, I am sure its not the machine it was before the mess. I am considering a clean install knowing what I know now.Other thoughts: the hinges are a bit weak - if you move just a little with it sitting on your lap, the display will fall down. Neither of my HP experience this. I am constantly pulling it back up. I wonder if there is a way to tighten the hinges. This is not a problem with it sitting on a desk or table. The power button on the side, should be recessed like the ENVY to avoid inadvertent powering on/off It does take a good amount of force to push it.. I have not powered off unintentionally as of yet. I am going to have to back off a star( to 4) on this computer, for the hinges and also the HDD controller or the HDD its self that has issues with MSI.UPDATE 8-14:System updated second day and everything slowed to craw again. I had to shut down and disable windows office click-to-run all is well No problems system seems perfect.. Biggest negatives that remain - Hinges too weak and keyboard is a bit uncomfortable sitting so far back - I might get used to this - But its not right - if you are a power user.... or do a lot of typing. But other than this - notebook is beautiful and fast and does what it should. Again its not the build quality of the HP ENVY.. and I doubt it will wear as such.. So its a trade off for the screen .. otherwise the I spend the extra 150 -200 for the ENVY.

I thinks ASUS still has a lot to learn about incorporating touch screen. This is the most unresponsive laptop I've ever owned. I hate to give a bad review but every time it stalls, crashes or just doesn't respond, I feel I need to warn others. I'm told bring it in and let techs work on it but honestly, I want a computer to work right out of the box without the need to take it to the shop. I should have just returned it from the start.

I bought this computer for nursing school because the one I previously had was too small. But since the day I got it, it has been trash. To start it died 25 mins after I was using it with a full battery. I contacted them and they said they would give me credit which wouldn’t cover the amount of a new battery. The fingerprint setup never worked. It was extremely slow and there was no issue with my internet. I know this because I left my house and went to multiple libraries and a classmates house for lectures and such and it still did the same thing. Recently it completely pooped on me. I brought that to the attention of the seller. And they said to send it in. I said I would but I would like to see the warranty first to see what they would cover. And then they said oh it looks like your warranty ran out a couple of months ago so don’t send it in. And hey still haven’t sent me the warranty. And when I try to find it on the Amazon listing and it says contact seller. Yet the seller has been completely useless and unhelpful. Save yourself the heart and head-ache. Just don’t buy it. Get something else.

I've now had this laptop for 7 months. That's it. 7 months. And it's started flashing, the screen just flashes if I don't have it in exactly the right position when I have it opened. It also keeps trying to do something when I close it up for the day. I can hear it making noise as I walk away. It's never been damaged in anyway, and I use it daily for my job. It's acting like a 2+ year old laptop and I've only had it seven months. It's very frustrating to have spent so much money and end up with a laptop that didn't last even a fraction of my last one and I spent almost twice as much on it. Keep searching.

I read many bad surveys about this lap top. However, I think most of the problems are due to the defult PC setting need to be changed. After I remove the window auto update and auto update in the "start". This computer goes very smothly. Turn on and Turn off all in 30 seconds. The stereo and image processing are great. Youtube is very smothly too.

Purchased new. Have had this laptop more than 2 years. I use it everyday, since I work from home. It is amazing. Fast and reliable. When I upgrade next time I will definitely be buying another Asus.
