No not in the box. There is a foot switch available separately called the VFS-5 which is designed for the Valvetronic range

How does this compare with the older Valvetronix amps, in terms of tone, useability and reliablility?

The VTX range amp is a well-received upgrade from our previous Valvetronix lines, with a new modeling engine, easy-to-use top-loaded control panel, additional features such as USB functionality, Bias control, and a sleek new look. All amps come with a 2-year warranty and should there be any issues, please contact Amazon directly.

Does the android app work? Is it any good without the app? How powerful is it without the app?

Can't speak for the android amp but it is well worth installing vox's Tone Room software if you want to be able to access some extra amps like the Orange and Dumble. You can replace your user amps with whatever you like and then be able to select them offline

Can you connect an ipod and play along to music, as you can with the Blackstar fly?

Yes, you can! There's an aux-in socket designed for connecting your mp3 player via an aux cable.
