MY FAVOURITE BOOK EVER
I have loved books since I came out of my mothers womb, everything from classics to adventure to detective to fantasy to romance to anything else (except nonfiction duh) and this has been the best thing I’ve read. I have a problem with starting books so this had been sitting on my bookshelf for quite a long time, a few months maybe. And I hate myself for the fact that I hadn’t picked it up until recently. I finished this book in 2 days tops. The first went a bit slow, but when you got into the first few chapters you could really see this book going somewhere good. The attraction to characters, the change in their feelings, the development of them all went so well. Asters writing is phenomenal. This book was amazing. All the similes, metaphors, and descriptions where fantastic. You could really see the time she took to write this. I LOVED the turn at the end. I may have cried but thats only when she amazingly described the moments of betrayal the main character felt. I LOVED ORO AND ISLAS JOURNEY. I loved the development. THIS IS AMAZING CANNOT TALK ANY FURTHER I THINK YOU GET HOW MUCH I LOVED THIS BOOK. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

Good read
I actually enjoyed this - it was a fun, easy read and the main character was very likeable. I liked having a heroine who didn’t have any power but was able to hold her own. There were also a lot of twists that I really didn’t anticipate and which kept me guessing. The slight criticism I would have is that it sometimes as if Isla was always being double crossed and the last twist with Grim felt a bit too much. However overall an engaging read

Incredible
I read many reviews before reading this. I am so glad I didnt listen to them. This was amazing. I couldnt wait to turn ea h page. The plot, the characters, the feelings were so real it was like it was a movie in my mind. Only part of the few 5 star books I've read. 📚

Amazing for a first book
I’ve seen many people write bad comments about this book and say it didn’t live up to the advertise hype. So reading those comments made me really nervous to read it because I thought I would have wasted my money. But honestly? This book was totally amazing. I loved the writing. I loved the plot line. I loved the story. I loved the twist. Though I did have my suspicions from the start but didn’t want to believe it could be true. But that’s the way these stories go. I thought this book would be a standalone but at the end I was pleasantly surprised to find out that there will be another. Well there better be because I am fuming about the couple change in the last few pages. Miss Alex, just no! I do not want Isla with Oro! Nope nope nope! Bring back Grim right now madam! Right this instant. Like he said at the end “you will get your memories and you will come back to me” so you better be writing this second book snd it better have all the Isla and grim content I could ever want otherwise I will start a war! Haha. But seriously amazing book for your first time but please, give me Isla/grim love. That’s all I want :)

An okay read
I enjoyed this book. I found Celeste being the villian quite predictable though. The plot got confusing too between the curses & history & the bond breaker. Also confusing that Isla was an amazingly skilled warrior one minute but an idiot for a lot of the book. Just didn’t have me hooked.

Teenpocalypse at its best!
Is the writing brilliant? No. Is it full of cliches? Duh! Still read it all in one day, actually got surprised by the plot twists and enjoyed my time through Lightlark. If you are looking for something complex this is not for you, but you feel like your classic teen fantasy fiction with a hint of apocalyptic vibes, this is for you.And for those loosing their minds over the classic love triangle and who it’s chosen… first there are more books to come. And really it’s a ridiculous reason to trash the book in reviews.

I shouldn’t have listened to the haters on BookTok and waited to long, because this was great!
This was a whole vibe, and I loved it. I don’t understand all the hate about this book because it was written exceptionally well for a first time author. Some notable writing achievements: the plot developed the story rather than the writer using internal monologue to develop it. There was very little of the typical endless world building that most fantasies have. She gave a little, then let the rest of the world unfold along with the plot (which was perfect). And most importantly, she didn’t fall into typical lazy writing devices which are so prevalent with new fantasy authors, like using an unreliable narrator to fill an obvious plot hole, THANK THE GODS! So touché to Alex Astor for doing the dang thing!!Now onto the book. It was definitely YA. The only spicy scene was fade to black. I normally like my books heavy on the spice but I was OK with this one being one 🌶️. This was fantasy with a romantic subplot. Like it was always there waiting in the background but never the main point of the story.I adored both Grimm and Oro for different reasons. Grimm definitely gave Rhysand vibes, though his actions left me super salty. Oro was NOT Matt Donovan like some reviews have suggested. He was broken and dying and I think that impacted his personality a great deal in the first book. I’m excited to see how the romance plays out in the next book.I adored Isla. She was two sides of a coin in nearly every aspect of her personality: strong and weak, skilled and unskilled, trusting and untrusting, ruthless and too compassionate. She was very relatable, and I loved that her personality wasn’t built around an MMC. She was truly her own person with her own agendas and struggles.I enjoyed the plot a lot. Honestly the “competition” thing was a turn off when I was was hesitating to start the book, but once I got into it I didn’t mind. It wasn’t“hunger games” like I was expecting. It was more a series of demonstrations with a lot of scheming and plotting between. It wasn’t super high action. I did find the rules of the Centennial confusing but it sorted itself out in the end.Overall I just really enjoyed the book.

Great book
My daughter ordered it and she read it in just a few days. (As far as I know there are 3 books). Daughter says: Recommend if you are into sci-fi, romance, enemies to lovers, spicy, powers and plot twists.

Nice Book
For people that want to get back into reading fantasy, a lot of different tropes in one, deadly trials, love triangle, powerless, female strength and wonder
