Utterly Fantastic!
With all the outrage and madness going on in the world, seeing everything being censored and/or removed. It put me in the mood for some good old Mel Brooks films. If I was going to start anywhere, it was of course going to be the now legendary Blazing Saddles.Blazing Saddles is a satirical western comedy film directed by Mel Brooks and produced by Michael Hertzberg. The film was written by Brooks, Andrew Bergman, Richardyor and more. It was released in 1974 through Warner Bros and stars the legendary Gene Wilder and Cleavon Little. There's a large amount of cameos from the likes of Dom DeLuise, Madeline Kahn and even the legendary musician Count Basie.I would be surprised if there were people out there didn't know what this film was about. But for those who don't, Blazing Saddles is a satirical look at racism and the old Hollywood western films. The dastardly bad guys are looking to make a fortune through the new railroad but a town stands in their way. To scare off the white towns folks, the bad guys send a black slave out to be their hero and saviour in the form of the town sheriff. The plot is nice and basic, has plenty of fun stereotypical western tropes and is held together by tonnes of timeless jokes. The film is mostly known for it's use of the "N" word. In fact, that would be true. The film uses it quite a lot. The context in which it is used is where all the fun is. This is a firm slap in the face to racism. If there's something to poke fun at, they do it. You'll see fun jabs at blacks, whites, biker gangs, Hitler, Nazi's and even the KKK. It's all there, it's all firmly on the nose and they don't care one bit. It's hilarious and something you couldn't do in 2020.The bluray looks surprisingly good and is easily an upgrade to my old DVD. For whatever reason, I was expecting this to look as average as the Spaceballs hi-def release. But the film looks great through out. The picture looks consistently clean, very sharp and has lots of strong colours through out. Blazing Saddles is not a film that needs a high quality release being so grounded in dust and tumble weeds but they've put some love into it. I can't complain one bit.As far as comedy films goes, Mel Brooks has a lot of classic films under his belt but this one knocks it out of the park. This film is an all out classic and it needs to be in your collection alongside Monty Python's Holy Grail etc.

Side splitting movie
This is so funny and is unique. No doubt many ‘tree huggers’ kind of people will take offence if presented with the scenarios and dialogue without warning. But, come on, take it as a comedy movie and it was funny in the past and if you are still able to watch it, is funny now. “Pass the baked beans.”….

Mel Brooks at his absolute best.
Despite I've yet to invest in a 4K-player, I bought this box set of "Blazing Saddles." The lure was the Blu-ray had been transferred after a 4K-scan, and it didn't disappoint. Besides looking and sounding better it has also been given a New Extra: Inappropriate inspiration - The Blazing Saddles Effect; s must for all Mel Brooks fans. I do concur with the person who lamented the fact that it doesn't come with a booklet about the film, but the various other paraphernalia incl. makes up for this, almost. Still I have no hesitation in given this version of the film the 5-stars it so fully deserves. -Can't wait till I get myself a quality 4K-player.
