Works great
Item works as advertised. Better than other fire starters I have used. My grandkids were able to effectively start fires within an hour of being shown how to use.

Best Flint & Steel Device
Let the sparks fly! I’d prefer this any day over a lighter or matches. Works better than expected.

By far the best fire starter on earth.
This is an incredible item that will start thousands of fires simply. It's almost a never ending fire starter but the ferrocerium rod will eventually widdle down. Buy a roll of jute rope and soak it in mixture of wax and liquid parrafin and you'll have a never ending way of starting your fires. This one is definitely my favorite ferro rod combo and it effortlessly starts the rope every time. I bought 4 of them to make sure all my survival bags have one and put one in my car. They sell rope replacement too and I bought 3 of them. This fire starter is incredibly durable and exquisite value. The rod is about 1/2 inch by 6 inch and the rope is 1/4 inch thick. Just simply fray the end of the rope and strike is and you have fire. Looks and feels amazing. Not to heavy or light. I absolutely recommend these and for those on the fence buy it, you'll love it. I'm buying a few more for bartar when shtf. These will be a great trade item.

Works as a novelty
5 stars for function. Easy to light as long as you fray out the rope good. Shower of spark, no problem there. So yeah, it does what it says. That may be all you need to know.So why 4 stars? It's not good for anything but a novelty. If you *want* a novelty that looks cool at the glamping campsite or backyard fire with buddies, buy it. That's basically why I decided to keep it - "hey look what I got". But at these places, you can also just as easily use... wait for it... a lighter. For tent camping, bug out bag, or bushcraft, there are much better options that are just as effective. It is simply too large and heavy for storing anywhere but a camper drawer or garage cabinet. You do not want this in a backpack. I'm wondering if I can literally cut the whole thing in half? I may attempt it! If they would make some changes - such as shortening, thin it down some and use a thinner rod, a better thought out striker that attaches somehow, maybe even get creative with a polymer handle lined with a metal tube and end cap that prevents melting. Then it may be a game changer. Until then, if you want to start a fire with "cool factor" it works well enough for that.

Excellent product to have.
Absolutely love this product, I ordered a second one. It’s quick and easy to start a fire, the flames created is pretty big to burn wood fast. I highly recommend for camping! It is small, light and wouldn’t take up any room in your bag., literally fits in your back pocket. Quality of the product is not cheap, whatsoever. Purchase these just to have, you won’t regret it.

BUY THIS BIG BOY & LIGHT IT UP and go back to the family, Mr Hero - DAD!!
BEST FIRE STARTER I HAVE EVER USED!!WITHIN ONE MINUTE, I STARTED A CAMP FIRE and kept it going with kindling and the other wooden materials. This fire starter isn't pocket size but it does the job, NOW!! I am no Daniel Boon, but I WANT A FIRE when I want a FIRE! I taught my kids how to safely prep the kindling materials and how to QUICKLY start the FIRE with this device and HOW to PUT OUT a FIRE AS WELL, just in case. It's a waxed, dry rope material that lights up FAST, and you can feed to rope outward to create a bigger flame if need be. Don't waste your time with those cute little pocket size starters that make LITTLE SPARKS that laugh at you. BUY THIS BIG BOY & LIGHT IT UP and go back to the family, Mr Hero - DAD!!

The King of fire starters!
I have used many types of fire starters over the last 30 plus years. And I can honestly say this one is one of the best I have tried to date. There are many fire steels out there that are quite good. And most can get the job done under most weather conditions. However the difference between a good fire rod and a great one is the ease in which it starts the fire. Does it take 5 to 10 strikes to ignite your birds nest material? Or just one strike? Because with this particular rod and striker it's usually one strike and your of to the races! The rope design which acts like a large candle wick ignites immediately every time! Giving you a nice big hot flame to light your birds nest or even small kindling wood very quickly! Honestly this thing is the king of fire starting kits of you ask me. Prior to this coming along. My favorite was the "Lighting Strike" fire starter. For those that know about that model? It's also quite good. I would say among one of the best next to this one. However this model is a way better value considering its well thought out design and function! Nothing against the "Lightning Strike" model. But this one out performs it at half the price! I paid around $60.00 for the Lighting Strike" model when it came out. And I believe they still sell for around $55.00 on average today. Works great like a said. But a bit pricey. If I had to choose between the two I would take this one every time! Hands down the better design.I'm actually going to buy a second one just to have it tucked away as a backup. Or incase I misplace or lose the first one.

Well designed, works well
I’ve had this product for awhile now and it’s been on multiple camping trips with me. I absolutely love it. It’s compact and it works every time. Very easy to use and the design is perfect. Just fray some of the rope that protrudes from one end of the tube, strike some sparks, and you will have a fire in seconds. I love that once the rope ignites, you can let it burn and ignite several things with it and simply pull the rope back into the tube for an instant extinguish. It’s a must have for anyone that spends time outdoors. Anyone that has seen this in action immediately wants one and I don’t blame them. For 20 bucks, this will last many, many years. Great value!
