It feels great to hold the pieces (great weight, texture, feel) and the board has a 9x9 grid on the back for beginners.The boxes the pieces live in is a bit flimsy - the lid has come off a few times, spilling them on the floor. There are plenty of pieces with this set though, so it's not the end of the world if you lose some.

Very nice go game board and stones. My 8 years old daughter absolutely love it. Overall very good materials.Only i can say that stone containers are looks made by cheap plastic. That can be something a bit better and strong.But this s not such a big problem as well.

As always with Yellow Mountain, the go board & stones are very good quality & worth the price. They also come with a brief beginners' guide. This is great to get you started, although I'd still recommend buying a beginners' book in order to get the most out of the game.Having a 9x9 & 13x13 board has been very useful because my local Go club regularly has beginners, plus a regular player who has been coming for a while but still prefers games on the 13x13 board. We have tried the usual thing of playing on a larger board with menus & leaflets covering the outer rows but these can shift & make it tricky for beginners to see where the liberties are along the edge.However, I would personally prefer a set like this with single-convex stones but they don't seem to offer one. Not only would this keep the costs down a little further for people who are getting started but also I have found single-convex stones to be handy when reviewing games. That's because when showing where stones could be placed from a certain position, the newly-placed stones can be turned flat-side up, making it easier to distinguish them from what has happened in the game so far & easier to remove when ready to progress. This is especially important in beginner games as beginners in our club are often unsure of where they should be thinking of going next, so often ask more experienced players what their options are from certain positions.Aside from that, I feel this set would also benefit from something to keep it all together, even if it's just a sturdy-ish cardboard box. But in terms of quality sets which aren't prohibitively expensive & are more pleasant to play on than the fiddly plastic sets, I've always been happy with the supplies I've bought from Yellow Mountain.

The table and stones are very well made.The wood table has the beginner 9 lines field on one side, and the full one on the other.The tubs are plastic but nice looking and they close well enough.The manual which comes with it, albeit not very large, is really well made and clear. In a sense the best part of the set.It starts with the very basics and moves to a number of common playing situations, progressing to various rules, but to start playing the first pages are enough. Rather than simply giving rules, it offers pictures of different setups, inviting the reader to guess what the right move(s) would be. That is very effective at keeping attention high. It also covers handicaps and to an extent the philosophy of the game.My kid (12 years old) found the game captivating and we had a very nice time playing, as absolute beginners.Despite the high price, I think it is worth it.However, it does not come with any pouch, box or bag

I was very impressed with the build quality, the board is varnish well painting the stone has a nice feel to them.The gameplay is go or Othello great thinking game, I would recommend this board game.Pros- Great build quality- Easy to playCons- None that I can see

I was intrigued by this game, absolute beginner and I tend to have a low patience level for learning rules! So with that in mind I found this game to certainly be intriguing, the set comes with instructions which were easy to follow and in fact instead of bombarding you with rules, there are pictures of moves which help no end. As for being a beginner, this is fun and gets the brain working. The board was bigger than I expected, I'm not sure why, the board is 35cm square and is good quality. the tubs the pieces come in are plastic but look good and overall this is a quality item. I personally would like to see this with a container to keep it all together and especially at this price I think I would expect it. Apart from that and the actual price which at the time of review £49.98 I think this is a great product.
