The compass functions require user input of degrees magnetic declination. You must have this information from a reliable source then input it for the travel area. I have used this watch and all it's relevant functions in North America, Asia, India and Australia but not South America or Brazil specifically. I will be traveling the Chile and Argentina in April and plan to take this watch.

Is the prw-3500-7cr suited to european area? i read there is also the model 3500-7er what's the difference?

The manual says this watch can sync with radio signals from the UK and Germany, so it should work in Europe. I don't know anything about the 3500-7er model.
