Economical, accurate for vehicles it is intended for.
Easy directions, works well. Just follow the directions to the letter and you should have no problems. Instantly coded a canister purge valve on my 96 olds mobile cutlass supreme (3.1L engine). I had no idea where it was located, but found the location in a service manual. Sure enough, between the engine and the firewall I found it, and walah! There was a rubber tube missing from the valve. Bought a new valve on-line, reset the error code, and everything is running great. Saved me the usual $75 diagnosis fee from the mechanic, and both the scanner and part combined cost me less and saved me time than taking it to the mechanic. I may have lucked out, but my experience was great with it. Hopefully I don't need to use it a lot in the future! From what I hear about the electronics of current vehicles, diagnosis of problems is probably out of the casual mechanic's league, but if you have a late 90's, early 2000's vehicle, I would say this is well worth the investment if you're not afraid to get under the hood and look in a service manual every once in a while.

BRAVO VEEPEAK...especially JOHN over at customer service!
So here is the scoop. The Veepeak OBD2 had a little issue. After I connected it into the obd2 port and tried it it would consistently show on screen a “Link Error." I emailed Veepeak at the address in the owner's manual. "John" at Veepeak got back to me immediately. He said it meant either the scanner failed to connect to the vehicle or the scanner was defective. Very professionally, John offered to send a FREE replacement to the OBDCheck VP39 model. Wow! I since I used it. It worked beautifully and discovered my 2003 GMC Envoy XL threw code P0128 "coolant thermostat. " I did some research, and verified thats was the most likely correct diagnosis based on car "symptoms." Since then the car has been fixed based the a highly accurate Veepeak diagnosis. I saved quite a bit of money avoiding the dealer. All I can say is VEEPEAK offered EXCELLENT CUSTOMER SERVICE! And no fault of the original product since the original most likely was not malfunctioning but just not reading. Overall, excellent products and service. Thx!!

You can't go wrong by buying this!
This is a fantastic simple-to-use OBD2 scanner. Everybody that owns a car should have one of these! This is a very basic barebones code reader. If you want to do more than just read your check engine light spend a little bit more money and get a model with more features! This code reader will only read a code when your check engine light is illuminated. It does not do computer scans or diagnostic test like other slightly more expensive code readers. My only gripe is the plastic is very cheap and when it's very cold the LCD screen hesitates. Since this is a very basic model it cannot clear all fault codes in most cars. It will tell you which code that cause the check engine light to illuminate. This is the perfect gift any armchair mechanic, basic car enthusiast or if you need a backup to a more advanced code reader.

This is the real deal
I was a little skeptical when i saw the OBD2 Scanner for the price it was being offered through review Review Kick. Being new to the site i was bummed when my promo code didn't work, but even the regular price was just too good to be true. So i did pay the full price for this scanner. Even though I'm not required to leave a review for this i was so impressed with it I have to tell everyone to buy this scanner. I put it to the test on my friend's girlfriend's car. We knew why the service engine light was on, the # 5 cylinder was fouled out. At first look I was puzzled by all the codes that are in the manual. Not to worry though because once you read the directions eveything falls into place; this is easy to use and works great! It immediately identified the plug on cylinder 5 was the problem. We had already determined that before I received the scanner.. so it was obvious to me right away that this scanner is the real deal. It can save a lot of time, money, and headaches by using this scanner at the beginning of the repair process.

Veepeak.. You have had ample time to correct and amplify your instruction manual by now.
Veepeak..A new user is confused immediately after plugging the unit in when it says, "OBDcheck - VP30" rather than the anticipated "C.A.N.OBD2". I spent several minutes trying to get this device to display what the manual said it would. I gave up and proceeded to read codes.Reading my codes was actually pretty easy and accurate. A week ago I was able to read my code from the car by bumping the ignition key to display the code P0441 which turned out related to my gas cap. Adjusting the cap cleared the code, but not the check engine light, and I did not want to disconnect my battery to do so. So I bought this Veepeak VP30 to clear the light. My code showed as both an active and pending in the VP30 even thought the car had cleared the code from the dashboard after the gas cap adjustment.I tried and tried and tried to erase the codes using the VP30 and got only "ERASE Fail" messages every time. I even tried holding down the Scroll key as instructed, in several menu spots since there was no mention of where to load the menu, again to no avail nor even indication of the process being activated. My check engine light was still on. I gave up and went inside to read the reviews. Some said it declared an ERASE fail like I was getting but had actually worked. Sure enough when I started my car my check engine light was out. Another test with the VP30 found no error codes. So, this device works well enough but the company is very lax in conveying corrections and post ERASE fail procedures which leaves us with a sour taste that is totally avoidable.
