Incredible bit of kit
Great bit of kit, very straight forward to use (just ensure that you have a joist or concrete floor) and these are a dream to use. Make the newer post very solid

second purchase of these after seeing them advertised online and wathing a video of them in action and i can honestly say they are easy to fit and so so strong.....really good product....only down side is apparently the US get an nice 36mm wood plug for the hole but we dont over this side but they arnt expensive to buy at all...but really rate this product.

Good piece of kit but follow instructions with care
this is an excellent solution for joining new Newel post to existing "stub". Having sawn off the original newel post completely square I mounted the zip bolt upside down because I needed to clad the remains of the original post with mdf as the new post was dimensionally bigger. The advantage to this strategy was that the hole required to tension the bolt was completely hidden by the cladding so no unsightly plug was necessary. I also used a joining plate to cover the joint between new and old post. If using this system take care when tightening the bolt as the screw mechanism seems a bit delicate and it may be possible to strip the gear is you are too aggressive which would be an expensive mistake. I found it tightens quite well and securely if you apply consistent but gradual pressure. Having installed 3 new newel posts like this at the top and bottom of the staircase I found no issues with this gear.

Did the trick
I had quite challenging geometry on the staircase. Fitted a new oak newel post to a chunky pine post which was cut just above the topmost mortise and tenon which provided structure. As I was going to pain the existing post white to serve as a platform for the oak post I installed the system upside down where the hole was drilled into the bottom post and pulled tight. This meant no holes in the new post and easy to put a cap/filler and pain bottom post to remove all traces of the mechanism hole

Awesome
I tried fitting a stair post with a 30mm dowel but there was too much wobble. Then I found this bolt. Removed the dowel, glued and made right. Then I fit this bolt in quick time. The post is absolutely solid, no wobble at all. Just wish I found it first it would have saved me a lot of graft.
