Great for Matted Dogs
I have a cute Golden Doodle, "Nessie", who is very prone to bad matting, especially behind her ears, but generally she gets matted all over. We like to let her hair grow long because it looks so cute, but the matts get worse as it gets longer.Previously I'd been using a basic set of Wahl clippers which simply couldn't keep up. They would literally cut a quarter inch and then jam up. It took me over 4 hours to cut Nessie! In desperation I finally decided to splash out and go for these Oster clippers after reading good reviews. I can honestly say these clippers are AMAZING. They glide through Nessie's matts like butter. Almost as if they weren't there at all. I've had them for several months now, and given her three cuts. Each time, same result. Effortless cutting. They are definitely on the expensive side, but WORTH EVERY PENNY in my opinion.Pros:Amazing at cutting through matts.Overall very easy to use.Quiet motor.Comes with spare lubricating oil and motor grease.Long cord, so I no longer needed to use an extension cord.Cons:On the expensive side.Quite heavy and chunky, but not excessively so.Seem to get quite hot, but not so hot that it bothers my dog.Final Thoughts:I can cut my dogs hair in 1 hour now! Thats 4 times faster than when I used my old Wahl clippers. I wish I'd bought these clippers sooner. They do what they are supposed to do, and they do it very very well. Buy them, you won't regret it.

Always reliable
As expected, the Oster A5 is a workhorse.

Excellent clipper, heavy for extended use
Awesome clipper, but VERY heavy for me to use continuously. The blade does get very hot, so be mindful to check continuously. I purchased the coolant to apply to the blade, but I have not used that yet.

It really is a professional clipper
I spent a long time reviewing and researching clippers and I'm so glad I purchased this one! 2 speed settings; I use fast on the body and slower under the armpits and around the toes for control. Great cord length! No need for an extension cord. These clippers DO get hot but not as quickly as others, especially if you are in a hot climate so I would suggest storing them inside the house where the temperature is controlled vs. a garage for example. Mum is a professional groomer and she really liked the clippers and couldn't believe the price - cheap!Cons: Instructions are terrible in terms of what lube/oil to use and how. Had my mum explain: apply the lube to the blade - not the teeth. you need to slide the back of the blade sideways, add a couple of drops of lubricant then slide the metal back piece back and forth until it glides easily. The action of the blade is side to side so it needs to move freely. Whatever you do, DO NOT clean the blade in water as it suggests! It will cause your blades to rust very quickly. I did this the first time I used them, let the blades air dry and voila, 2 days later, rust! Professional advice from mum: use the little brush included to get most of the hair off then put a drop of oil on the teeth and wipe off with a lint-free rag. If you do get rust, do the same thing but give the blade a little rub before wiping clean. The rust magically disappears.Would buy these again.

Oster wins every time!
This is my 2nd Oster animal clipper and I couldn't be more pleased with it. I retired my old one that was the same model only the single speed. It was almost 30 years old and worked like a mule for all those years. I figured it was time to put it to rest and get a new one. This 2-speed clipper is a nice improvement over my single speed. I used an old set of blades since I have about 5 sets of #10 and thought I'd keep the new one for when the old blades are dull. Well, let me tell you, with this new clipper it showed me that my old blades were just as good as new because it cut so much better. What a nice surprise. It runs relatively quiet for a professional type clipper. For those that complain about clippers getting hot, they all get warm/hot after extended use. It's a matter of physics. No matter how well lubricated the blades are, they are going to produce heat. You have two metal surfaces rapidly rubbing against one another and it will produce heat. So if you expect to get any clippers that don't get hot, take your animal to a groomer and let them handle it, because it's not gonna happen. I'm very satisfied with Oster and will continue buying their products. I had an Andis as a backup and it was trashed in a few years. I hated it. The switch was on the side and kept getting bumped from usage and finally wore the switch out. This Oster has the switch on the end and you will not keep hitting it. This is a very well designed clipper. It is a little on the heavy side, but then again, it's a corded model and is made to hold up over time, so you don't want something light weight. I would recommend this clipper to anyone looking for a quality animal clipper. Oh, and I used my old ones last summer to clip the goats and it worked like a charm on them too, so it's not just for dogs.
