Cheap Insurance. Change the heating element and anode every six months
The media could not be loaded. Full timer here. I bought the anode, heating element and the spray wand to flush the tank. They’re all very inexpensive insurance. Last year it cost me the entire water heater (around $1200 installed…ouch!) because once the anode is used up electrolysis immediately starts eating up the tank itself. It was an expensive lesson now I change out both every six months. The elements in the video are only nine months old.

Perfect replacement part
I was hesitate to do the replacement myself, but after reading the user manual and how to check to see if the element or something else had failed, it was obvious that the element itself had failed and was easy to replace. I had an initial issue with finding a 1 1/2 inch socket to replace the element, but found one in the electric water heater section of Home Depot. After draining the tank and disconnecting the 2 wires, the element easily unscrewed in spite of my fears that it might be rusted in place. After wrapping the new element’s threads with plumbing tape AND plumbers anti seize paste, I easily screwed in the element, reconnected the wires. Filled the tank by turning on the water, opening the pressure release value until water came out and then checked for leaks. Finding none, I turned on the electric portion of my hot water and soon had hot water. Easy fix.
