I like the formats used in the series
I am a "fan" of the Lonely Planet series of language books. I like the formats used in the series, and I think that the writers and editors do a great job in providing readers with phrasebooks that encompass a good amount of practical situations where a clear, concise group of both individual words and associated full sentences using those words would be needed. The added notes on customs and history of the country and culture in which the language forms a key element of daily life are very appropriate and useful for readers. This edition of Lonely Planet Hebrew Phrasebook & Dictionary continues the great work of this series. I would recommend this phrasebook .for multiple purposes: travelers can use it, as well as language students taking a primary course in conversational Hebrew.

Overall a nice phrasebook to take with me for an upcoming trip ...
Overall a nice phrasebook to take with me for an upcoming trip to Israel. You certainly won't become fluent by reading this, but that's not really the purpose of it. I do think it will give a more comfortable feeling regarding the language.

OK, but one major flaw
This is a great and well-organized phrase book, but the one major flaw that made it difficult for me to use was the lack of indication of which syllable to stress in multi-syllable words. I don't think it would be hard to bold-face the stressed syllable in the phonetic pronunciation. I never knew how the word was really pronounced, so I felt discouraged from trying to speak, which was a shame. Next time add this feature please, Lonely Planet!

she didn't find this phrasebook very useful at all
I took it on my last trip to Israel for a relative who doesn't speak much Hebrew... she didn't find this phrasebook very useful at all. It is missing very basic phrases and terms. It seems better suited for a trip of only a few hours maybe for business, and you want only go to one or two restaurants and maybe a couple stores as a tourist accompanied by a fluent speaker. If you want to read a few token signs on the street, great, this book is for you. If you want to use this phrasebook to help with even basic statements ("can I buy a pizza?", "can I change this money?") then forget it, you would be lost.

Pretty good
It is very good and has alot of phrases to say in Hebrew. My freind did tell me that the way some conversations were put in the book were how females say it and not males

Great companion
The small but rich book is an amazing Hebrew guide to get you started fast to deal with everyday conversation. Its suitable for beginners and for travelers but if you are looking for deep Hebrew then I suggest reading Hebrew books.
