Great Idea but there are a couple of caveats
Great idea but there are a few caveats:I've purchased two of these, and installed one of them. NEITHER box came with any instructions or manual. If you lost/misplaced your original KS Lev instructions good luck finding anything on the Southpaw on the KS Lev website. There is however a manual for the Lev and general installation videos for that.Installation is just as for the normal KS lever. If you have one already installed you will need to detach it from the pulling mechanism, run the wire back out through the sheathing, then after attaching it to the Southpaw re-run it back to the seat post. You WILL probably have to trim it and then re-size the sheathing etc. as the wire or plastic thingy will be deformed from use and attachement. Follow the ORIGINAL KS Lev instructions. ALSO DO NOT THROW OUT THE ORIGINAL LEVER.Here's why: After riding for approximately 30 miles on rough terrain the lever developed a crunchy feeling. Upon inspection I found that the circular nut that hold the lever together, and which the lever pivots on, had the bottom half missing. The attached photo shows the lever and the top part of the nut which was sitting in the hole. This caused the crunchy movement and if I hadn't noticed I suspect the top part would have popped out too. CLEARLY THE BOTTOM OF THE NUT UNSCREWED ITSELF and fell out through use. If there was a manual I would have known to tighten it and perhaps apply some blue loctite to make sure this didn't happen. But, alas, no manual.I called KS customer service and after explaining what happened was told I had to buy a new part. Seriously. I was directed to Universal Cycles and they have the part (P5102). I ordered it and paid shipping. KS customer service informed me they don't sell parts. Yes this is crappy customer service: no manual, part works itself loose after minimal use, have to call, get told you have to buy a replacement and pay shipping. Not cool KS.Just before hanging up the customer service guy (who WAS helpful and nice btw) told me the pivot/retaining nut is the same for the original lever as for the Southpaw. So, I removed the "plastic" nut from the old one and sure enough it fits and works fine. I put a little blue loctite on it and now I know to pay attention to it.When I install the second Southpaw I will make sure to apply blue loctitie to the nut as well.Another known issue was the clamp moving around on the handlebar. KS now includes two tiny pieces of tape that are to be used to attach the Southpaw to carbon handlebars. (In fact, the only instructions that come with the box is a pictograph of applying them to the mounting hardware!) They work fine but don't appear to be very re-usable. Customer service also recommends carbon compound/paste but I tried that first and it didn't work so well. I noticed that if your brake lever is suitably torqued it many help keep the Southpaw in place as it will butt up against it. YMMVANYHOW... the Southpaw allows you to have a better grip while racing or shredding and still using the dropper post when needed. The original KS lever forces you to bring your thumb up and over WHILE RIDING which means no grip and sore thumbs.TL;DR: Follow the original instructions, put blue loctite on the pivot nut and tighten, attach correctly to the handlebar, go shred

Great Upgrade to the stock KS Remote
I have been really impressed by this remote. It is so much better than the one that comes stock with your dropper post. I was able to set it up super easily - the barrel adjuster is great for getting the somewhat finicky KS posts to that "just right" tension spot that they need. The bearings have held up well over the last 30 hours or so of riding that I've put in on it - I would think I have used the remote well over 500 times. They don't feel super smooth, but I've just added a tiny bit of chain lube every once in a while and they haven't started to squeak or anything. I've seen a lot of complaints about the clamp, and while I haven't had any issues on my simple aluminum bar, I can definitely see how it could be a pain - especially on carbon bars. I don't own a torque wrench or anything so I have no way of knowing how tight I have the clamp, but I felt like I had to go further than I wanted to get it firm on the bar. I will say though that this thing is super adjustable and it's easy to get the trigger at just the right angle and distance for any thumb. I would give it 5 stars if the clamp was a little better and the bearings felt smoother.

Sturdy and worth the money.
First of all, the item came in retail packaging and not just loose. It does not come with a cable, but for the price it is fair.It does what it claims to do and it does it well. I have an alloy bar it's clamped to. The clamp mechanism is only one screw, and it sort of pinches to the bar, so time will tell if it loses some of it's strength after excessive use.The clamp itself is cast alloy although the pics made it look pretty much like tough plastic. The fact it's actual metal makes me far more comfortable in using it long term.Read other reviews here, and if you have problems with it and are mechanically inclined, you will be able to sort out any inconsistencies with this item for only 1/2 the cost of other alternatives. (Which appear only marginally better at a glance).

Better $$$, but functions as well as others costing double!
Covid has affected the whole world, shipping is just 1 aspect of its overwhelming impact. Worldwide Cyclery are amazing at what they do. What usually takes 2, 3 days tops to be delivered, took about 2 weeks. No big deal, just demonstrates how covid has gummed up the works on most everything. This dropper post is outstanding! Looks great, works well, simple installation, seems durable enough, but, will update this review after more time on the trails. I'm glad I bought this item, and WILL purchase again as needed!

I picked this up after I wrecked and smashed the silly metal guide tube for the stock remote. I'm running 1X10 so I had a free spot on my bar for the Southpaw lever. Installation was easy and the silly clamp design grips well on an allow bar (I'm using a RaceFace Atlas bar). I've taken the bike out twice with the Southpaw installed, actuation is good and I found it much easier to use than the stock remote. If you are running a 1X system, you'll find the Southpaw to be a good fit.
