East to use
Easy to use, and simple setup. Able to digitally save old home videos before the tape was unusable. Hardest part was locating a vcr to play the tape!

Excellent Choice for me
I have a medium knowledge of tech and try to keep up with the latest basic knowledge of DIY and devices. I usually google or YouTube vital things. I was a little apprehensive about this device when I saw the ratings and reviews in comparison to some of the higher priced and largely rated brands. Let me say this was a great choice for me. The price was affordable. The packaging, and device did not appear cheap. Everything I needed was in the box. Let me note: There is a CD that comes with this product that intended for Windows users. At first glance one might think the included disc contains installment for Mac OS and WIN. It does not. Only WIN, however the manuals and guides are viewable for ALL USERS. With that said, I am using a MacBook Pro 2021 M1 and all I needed was the Converter, Cables and Quicktime. Follow the instructions to connect to my old JVC Mini DV and it was easy peasy. You can use other software for editing such as Final Cut. I just wanted to preserve old home videos before the tapes became damaged and not viewable. I'm glad I made this purchase and would recommend this for anyone with minor knowledge. It's all in layman's terms, nothing too technical or takes you through too many steps. One important thing to note. If you don't already own a USB to C , get one. It will come in handy you will also need it for newer models of computers with ONLY C type ports. It's good to have as well as C-type to C dongles.

Some troubleshooting required
It was time to finally dive into converting my baby videos into something I can view without lugging out the concrete brick of a VCR player out into the living room.I ordered this converter after watching a tutorial online where the YouTuber used a similar product. Everything but the branding was the same - however, since the one they used was out of stock I took a chance on a random product that had the same buildup. It came in the mail, and I plugged it in, expecting something to happen naturally. It did not. As a brand new Mac user I was stumped, and it was only after I contacted UCEC customer support that they explained that in order for it to work, I needed to open Quick Time player - go to File - select "New Movie" recording - click the drop down box next to the red recording circle - select AV to USB2.0 (or USB3.0) under camera AND Microphone.Aha! It was a success. I buckled in for a long day of recording. However, I had cozied up too soon. The video was blurry, kept skipping, and the color quality was very poor, with lines containing high saturation while leaving the rest of the picture dull.Well - I thought - This is what the reviews said, what did I expect? I set up the return, and started looking for other options. Then I remembered that the connection chord between the VCR and the USB connector had seemed very cheap to me, loose - I thought I had broken it at one point after simply plugging it in. I had another quality chord that I had used in the past with my TV, and decided to test out that to see if it would solve the picture issues. It did! I buckled in to record - but the lines returned. They were less common but seemed to be even worse at times. I'll be returning this and going with something better.

Great cabling, software locked up my computer
The cables were great. I ran into some problems with the software, however.

Nice for the price.
A very simple solution to a knotty problem. I had to connect to my PC rather than my Mac--but the software bundle is excellent.v Video quality is quite good. Be advised that the software is on a CD and that you have to have a compatible drive to upload it.

When It Works, It Works Well
Here’s my thing about this product and I hope those of you looking over the reviews find this to be useful - I was just like you. I looked over the reviews, the good and the bad, and I talked myself initially out of buying. Mainly because everyone was having issues with the scan lines. I sat on the thought for a week and gave it a try anyway. Does it work perfectly? No. But does it work at all? Yes. Here’s what happens. Running it through a 2019 iMac Pro all updated to the latest 2021 update, whatever that is, as of this review.Yes, sometimes I receive scan lines. Some tapes, I didn’t receive any at all. I put over 10 hours of footage through this device. About 10% of the time, I caught it producing scan lines as mentioned in the reviews. Sometimes it would do it for 10 minutes and just “pop” out of the scan lines back to color. Annoying? Sure. But not enough that it ruins all of the memories. I would wiggle around the cables and nothing would really change. So it’s definitely a device problem.Other times, I would hit play and the audio would play just fine but the video would blink in and out until I either rewound or fast forward and then hit play; all of a sudden now everything is playing fine in color and with no issues. So my conclusion is that yes, the product works, and it worked “enough” for me to do what I needed it to do. The bits with the scan lines for me are brief, and able to be ignored because the content of the footage is what is most important. I am a video editor so for anytime the scan lines appeared, the color disappeared. So my work around was to bring it into a video editing software and simply cut the footage where the scan lines begin, and turn it black and white. Scan lines gone. Color gone but memories still there. I can live with that.I didn’t bother to call customer service. From the reviews, they don’t do much of a good job helping and the workarounds they seem to offer don’t help either. I took a chance. Thrilled? No. Satisfied? Just enough.Overall, it’s a 3 out of 5 for me as far as the product goes as a whole. It does not work as intended, 100% of the time. And to those who are not video editors like me, this can be hard to remedy or live with, and I get that.4 out of 5 for quality when it does work. The clips that did capture color, captured it wonderfully.Just not a perfect product.
