Perfect for my desk
Having to remember a multi-finger keyboard combo to change the volume on my desktop PC was always a pain. This accessory is perfect because all you do is plug it in and you have instant access to volume control and quick muting of speakers. Windows recognized it immediately, nothing else to install. Why didn't I get one of these years ago?

Gets the job done, and sturdy enough for what it costs
After reading some of the other reviews here I wasn't sure if this was going to be good value. Thankfully I can report it seems to be reasonably well made and most importantly, works well at being a USB volume control for my Windows PC. It worked out of the box without configuration, being discovered by Windows as a "USB Multimedia Controller". You rotate the knob by one detent (approximately 18 detents/revolution) and your volume is adjusted by 2 units. Push the button to mute. Push and rotate to change to the next song in your media player. The device itself is pretty well made, but as others here have noted, the knob feels a little wobbly/less-than-sturdy. I decided to take mine apart to see why (you can see the photos I took on my investigation). The rotary encoder is solidly soldered to the printed circuit board, and is also has a reasonably solid mechanical connection to the enclosure itself. There is some slop in the rotary encoder shaft, but I suspect the problems is that the knob is relatively large and can apply a lot of force to the encoder shaft, and also more visibly display the effects of the slop. The knob has a plastic core with a machined aluminum cover, and so there may also be some flex or play at the connection between the knob and rotary encoder shaft. All that said, the wobble isn't bad, and overall this thing is a good size, well-made, and solves my problem, so I'm a happy customer.

Great knob that works on my Windows 10 PC.
Pretty great knob for volume control. Doesnt have a bunch of bells and whistles which is fine. It does what it needs to do and is very smooth and satisfying to operate. Works on my Windows 10 PC. The cable is braided and has decent thickness. construction feels pretty good for how small it is. I think 30 is a little much. If there were better options out there I think 20-25 dollars would have been a more reasonable deal. But honestly the other volume knobs I looked at at this price point seemed way cheaper in quality or ugly to look at. So I am happy to spend the 30 dollars on this one.

Works with the Atoto S8 Android car stereo!
My car doesn't have steering wheel controls for the stereo, so I was using Atoto's AC-44F5 remote. That worked decently for about a week and then basically fell apart. So I took a chance on this volume knob since it behaves as a regular HID keyboard and it works beautifully! Really nice feel, an absolutely joy to use compared to that plastic piece of junk from Atoto. One note, since it appears as a regular keyboard Android won't show the onscreen keyboard. To fix that go to Atoto's Settings > Users & Accounts > Language & Input, then under "physical keyboard" you should see the volume knob (labelled "HID c001:1dea" on mine). Select that, then enable "show virtual keyboard".And there's a quirk, the next/previous track are reversed when using it with the Atoto. That's not an issue with this volume knob since it happens with any multimedia keyboard connected to my Atoto, and this knob behaves normally when I use it in Windows, Linux or Mac. So for some reason the Atoto headunit is reversing the next/previous buttons. I tried about every button remapper on the Play Store but none could fix it. I emailed Atoto's tech support, will update this review when I hear back from them.

Add a volume control to your PC!
Do you find it slow and clumsy to control volume using your mouse or function keys? Since the keyboard makers cannot be bothered to include a volume control, this is the way to go. Just plug it into a USB port and it's ready. It just works. I've had zero issues. Windows 10 PC.You can spend a couple bucks less, but I'm happy with my choice. Doesn't look like a Radio Shack kit that you put together, lol. This one is very well designed, nice stylish details, low profile, looks nice on your desk, smooth in its operation.Five stars!

Works right out of the box!
I'm using this as a volume control on a normal windows 10 computer. It works great, and didn't need any setup to make it work. The body is metal and the knob is plastic, but it overall feels sturdy. It doesn't stay super planted on the desk, so I do wish the feet were a bit stickier or it was a bit heavier.

Feels like Volume Knob from old Panasonic Stereo Receiver
This media controller is shockingly well done. The materials feel premium-- the knob is a nice, weighty aluminum, and the USB cord is one of those fabric covered ones. Installation couldn't have been easier, and all of the functions work great. It feels like the volume knob on an old Panasonic receiver.Smacking that pause/mute button gives a weighty "click" that makes it very satisfying. We'll see if it lasts more than a month, but so far this thing slaps.

Cheap and unreliable.
I have it plugged into my MAC desktop and when turning the volume knob it sometimes randomly jumps to full volume. And the mute button has never really worked. Pressing the knob straight down is supposed to 'click' the button into MUTE - but the button is quite sticky and doesn't press easily. So it's just more reliable to quickly turn the volume all the way down than struggle with getting the sticky mute function to work.
