Do you find this easy to clean?

I've been using this aerator a couple times a week for the last 6 months and slowly over time there is a sludge build up inside. There is no way of opening the aerator to properly clean it. We've been washing it with hot soapy water but the water can only run through the middle so there is no way to scrub it. I also found that bits of food can get caught inside when washed in the dishwasher. Throwing this in the garbage as I don't want my wine running through built up sludge.

Does it need a filter?

No filter needed. That is to say, the wine aerator does not use a filter.

aerator for rose wine?

I use mine, sometimes with a decanter. I think aerating and/or decanting improves most any wine. This is most true for young, full bodied reds with high tannin concentrations. "Rose" won't have high concentrations, and you could easily get by just pouring into a wine glass and letting it sit a few minutes before drinking. You can speed things up by using the aerator when pouring directly through it into the glass, or by swirling the wine in the glass after you've poured. But this aerator has a nice look and feel and is easy to clean. I think it adds to the enjoyment to pay wine the respect it deserves. And you might be inclined to try some reds out if you have one. A nice Pinot Noir or a Malbec, perhaps. Or even a red blend. Good luck, and enjoy.
