It doesn't look fake at all in my opinion. It's not antiqued or a matte gold. It's a true yellow shiny metallic like gold. It pairs well with the plastic hanging chandeliers. If you are trying to avoid a fake look please understand these are not hanging glass pebbles which could look fake as well. I love these lamps personally. They fit my living room and are affordable

They look like glass, sounded like glass when taking out of packaging for assembly. However, when you actually touch them, they definitely are some kind of manufactured plastic. I assume they can withstand high heat, since the light bulb it came with emits 100 watts.
