WD 14TB Gold
I've had the drive for month and gave it a workout when first received. No issues and for a HDD its relative fast as I did get advertised read/write speeds. Not near as noisy as most Enterprise drive are. Remember to register your drive at Western Digital support to get the full 5 year warranty.

Silence is Golden
I've used WD Black, Gold, and Red Pro for decades with high satisfaction. The 22TB Gold is the best HDD I've ever used. This drive is so quite I cannot believe it. I can hear the rats in the attic but not a single click from this drive. Purchased directly from Amazon and validated fully 5 years plus warranty on this drive. Absolutely would purchase again. Longevity is unknown as I just put it into service. However, I have scores for WD Black in service 8+ years, no defects, no issues, but are noisy. This 22TB Gold is SILENT. Your mileage will vary. The gold is less than 3 feet from my chair, in tower case, with low fan background noise of 24dB, drive cannot be detected even under extremely heavy data loads.

Dead on Arrival (DOA). Could not be initialized
I purchased a WD Gold Data Center 2TB in July 2017. The hard disk is still in use and works very well. I trusted the WD's brand, so I purchased WD Gold Enterprise 8TB on August 4, 2025 to expand my storage. I received the new drive on August 5 afternoon and installed it immediately to my desktop computer. Unfortunately, I could not initialize this new hard disk on my computer (Win11). I always got a "The request could not be performed because of an I/O device error" message in Disk Management. I switched different SATA and power cables to determine the issue. I even put my ear on the hard disk when starting my computers but did not hear any sound of spinning up. The computers' BIOS could not recognize the hard disk, either. It only detected a device attached but showed the storage capacity as "0.0GB" without show the manufacturer information. I put the hard disk to another desktop computer but the issue remained. I am sure the problem was not on my side and assume that the hard disk is dead on arrival, so I returned it.One thing I want to mention is that I chose the "Reduce packaging, ship in manufacturer's packaging" option when I placed the order, so the DOA might be caused by no extra protection in the package. I still trust the WD brand since I have been using its HDD since 2010. I will buy the 8TB Gold Enterprise again and select "Hide what's inside, ship in Amazon's packaging" and hope this will give the HDD more protection like some bubble packs.

The best data storage solution.
These drives perform excellently and last, even under high thermal conditions. I recommend this drive to anyone who wants storage media that will last a lifetime without error.

GREAT Synology NAS SERVER HHDs
Up Dated 2/18/2025: --- No Problems with the 16TB WD Gold in my Synology NAS DS416Play AND my Synology NAS DS1520+. I also have them in 2 Synology 5bay Expansion Units DX517 connected to my Synology NAS DS1520+. No error codes everything works great. I use the DS416Play for file backups. I use the DS1520+ and both of my Synology 5bay Expansion Units DX517 set up as 3 Volumes for my PLEX Server. ----- "YES Synology updated there Compatible Drive List for at least the Drive List for my Setup." ----- My be yours as well?? ----- But really -- What a GREAT setup. I also have a digital antenna in my attic connected to a Silicon Dust FLEX 4K that is connected to my router. So though PLEX SERVER I get "ALL my Local TV Channels" and ALL In Full HD & a lot more TV channels from Plex Live TV. All sent wirelessly to all my TVs. NO MORE cable tv bill.

Great drives, but check your S/N for warranty coverage ASAP
Good drive..but depending on your drive source, hit or miss on warranty. Be sure to check your serial number and country to see if you get a drive with a valid warranty. Before you use or install it.I've bought this 3 different times and was surprised to find a drive I bought in late 2023, when it was just over a year old, had been imported to the USA from another region. This came from Amazon.com as the seller, not a 3rd party. Turned out no warranty coverage when it died at 13 months. This last purchase, June/July 2025, I got a drive with proper warranty in the USA. Good through 2030. Came in a retail box, very happy with the purchase. In terms of the product itself, they've performed as expected. Having a drive die isn't a surprise, it happens. My luck wasn't good as it was 1 of just 4 purchased. What wasn't expected was finding too late that after trying to buy a quality drive brand new under warranty (or so I thought), that it wasn't under warranty and I was out of luck. So be sure you're getting what you paid for inside the return window and you'll be fine.
