Introducing Artificial Intelligence: A Graphic Guide (Graphic Guides)

Useful
A very useful read to support me with a project. The conversion of this title to an ebook did not work perfectly as each graphic text was repeated but it was still useful. It taught me not to fear AI and to recognise that it is really surprisingly limited in its application.

Nice Starter On A.I
For £1.50, this was an excellent purchase! Short, effective and a great simple way to understand some of the main effects and points of Strong A.I and Weak A.I

Good overview of the AI landscape
Some fascinating stuff there. Specially around the link between mind and body and the birth of language as an interaction between communication and internal modeling. Good pointers to dig deeper on some issues.

So out-of-date it's historical!
Be aware that this is a very out-of-date book which was first published 15 years ago. There is some material on neural networks, but it has nothing about the developments in AI which have recently made the news which use sophisticated learning algorithms. You just have to see the illustrations to realise that the most modern desktop computer is an IBM PCs from the 1990s! The latter part of the book is on the "Near Future" which has some amusing predictions on the intellect of robots!

30 years out of date
Almost this entire book could have been written in 1988. For me that was when decades of armchair academics speculating over the definition of words and arguing with no or little evidence were swept aside by the event of doctoral students getting their hands on faster machines. Pretty much every problem deemed impossible in 1980 the solution is now available on every smart phone. Don’t try to play chess, checkers, recognise your friends, translate language in a battle against your phone. You will lose. Industrial robots are amazing and can’t be dismissed as not proper robots.I guess the author has spent his life arguing in essays, while the people making progress have been wrIting code. This is a useful history book. If you want to learn AI then look at Google and find a problem you want to solve. And write some code.
