Q: what is the difference between the mecha-membrane and the mechanical version?

What Chris is forgetting is that the difference between the membrane keys and the mechanical keys here also is a difference of 50 bucks, which unless you are someone who is a pro gamer or content creator, you aren't going to notice. I've had both the Razer membrane keyboards and the Logitech G910 which is mechanical, and while I love my G910, the difference between the two types of keys is not a difference between "good" and "garbage", but rather what kind of feel you want. Do you want loud clicking keys that have more of a tactile feeling? Or do you want keys that are quieter but don't provide as much tactile feedback? That's the difference.

Doesn't feel nearly as good for smaller hands. The D Pad is very fragile. If you use the D Pad for movement, then be aware that the D Pad on the Tartarus is fragile and you may end up with something that only moves in 3 directions after some months. I actually wish Logitech still produced their G13. May have to eBay one, becuase my luck with the Tartarus gamepads is bad. The D Pad always renders them unusable. My N52 lasted for 14 years (and is still working, gifted to a friend). I can't get these Tartarus to last more than 6-7 months.

Yes. Depending upon the game, it can be left "as is" for movement, or it can be programmed. Each of it's directional "keypresses" can be programmed to emulate specific keyboard keys.
