Conversion from square tapered to hollow bottom bracket
Upgraded my son's 2021 Rockhopper to a 1x with this crankset. These are light, sturdy and smooth. I added a Microshift Advent clutched derailleur, a 48-11 cassette and an Advent shifter. Converting to a 1x eliminates considerable weight: front derailleur, cable, shifter, extra chain ring, heavier bottom bracket. Removing front derailleur exposes the Rockhopper's dropper post internal routing port which is hidden under the derailleur mount. This crankset is a simple and affordable upgrade. You'll need a few tools to convert from a square taper to a hollow crankset: Crank puller, maybe old and new style bottom bracket tools, a big adjustable wrench maybe, a cartridge type bottom bracket remover, maybe a torque wrench. .Bikehand tools has all of them right here on Amazon.

Gets the job done
It's worth $50 to throw on an old bike and upgrade to modern bearings but you get what you pay for. The only thing keeping the bearings engaged is a small piece of plastic and you're almost guaranteed uneven wear. If you're putting thousands of miles on the bike, consider spending the extra $100 for SRAM DUB+Eagle crankset. For those upgrading a throw-away bikes square BB that you put maybe 500 miles on a year, this is perfect.

Super nice!
I'm building a gravel bike from an old 3 x 7 Genesis 700C hybrid. The clunky stamped tapered square crank was rusty and heavy. Getting that off the frame took far longer than installing this crank. The bottom bracket is marked for left and right and threaded perfectly into the frame with only hand pressure. This is the first snail chainring I've tried and I'm impressed. I don't have brakes yet so I've only run some tests around the block but I like this kit a lot. I went with the 36T but can see switching out to a 38T later on. It's nice to have the option to swap in a new chainring to fit riding style.

Good for Mountain Bikes...
This is a good deal for a whole crank set - by whole, it has everything you need, including the bottom bracket, chain ring and all the needed nuts/bolts. The arms feel like they're well made - on visual inspection, I didn't see any issues. The set looks nice too - with a better than expected black finish and geometry to the arms. Overall, it's a good set for someone who wants to go to a single chain ring.
