Quality pocket knife.
I bought 3-4 of these. These are well made. The package says made in China and the actual blade says made in France. So I don't know where its actually made. These are very simple, cleverly made knives. They sharpen up nice, fit in your pocket nicely, look nice and make great gifts. Blade isn't real thick and the knife isn't bulky. Buy one.

Great knife!
I bought this for food prep. When I travel the country in my truck. I should have picked a bigger one but it's still an opinel. They have high quality knives. Can't go wrong

I like it....
I have many folding knives but finally decided to pick up one of these Opinel's. It's not the best knife in the world, but isn't the worst either. I doubt it would be a good idea to utilize the knife in any sort of heavy duty task, but would be adequate for light, and many moderate jobs. I admire the simplicity of it, and it definitely has an appeal all of it's own. I do like how light it, is and also how smooth it is which makes it comfortable to carry in a pants pocket. You barely even know it's there. The steel parts are a form of stainless, and there's not much to worry about as far as rust and corrosion as the handle is wood. The best sharpener I've found for the type of steel on this knife is a cheap little pocket sharpener that has the ceramic V block in it. The ceramic does a pretty good and quick job of sharpening this, where other types didn't do so much. That's a good and much handier thing for sharpening it when camping or fishing or whatever. Although this knife is not a modern high tech kind of knife, it is kind of cool, and If I order another it will be a bigger model as the number 8 size is a good size for a pocket knife but a little small for my big hands. I like it and will look forward to trying out some of their bigger models.

Incredibly sharp, handy, inexpensive and lives up to its reputation
Opinel is known for their simple construction, clever lock and ability to hold an edge. I like the fact they've been around over 100 years and are still made in France versus 5000 miles to the east like everything else. You're not going to be hunting bears, fighting off ninjas, or chopping down trees with this thing. The blade has a full flat grind, which is simple and very sharp but trades a little in edge durability. Think of it as a small chef's knife - it cuts great but you will have to sharpen it.The thing is, if this type of knife appeals to you, you probably won't mind having to sharpening it. This is the opposite of the popular tactical knives and harkens back to simpler times and tools. It's not sexy, and you won't see the latest action star carrying one. The Opinel offers a linerless wooden handle, a simple collar lock and a century of practical refinement at a very reasonable price. It feels good in the hand, is very light, easily disappears into a pocket, and will be there when you need it. You won't regret buying one.

I like it
First off, let me start by saying I am not a big Opinel fan, and have been on the edge about whether I wanted to buy one to try or just not bother mainky because I hear people compliment them all the time and how great they are for such a cheap price. I collect pocket knives of all value (except the extreme ones over 200+... I just cannot justify a $200+ pocket knife for any reason) my most expensive knife is either a Spyderco/Benchmade (forgot which costs the most but each are well up past $160) and I barely tske them out to use, but when I do they do not disappoint. My normal EDC knives are that of a spyderco tenacious, a Rat 1 or 2, that cheap $10 usa flag punisher knife from MTech, or a kershaw of some sort. For work I use a victorinox or a civivi elementum as well as my tenacious and RAT models. So to compare Opinel to them... I just didn't think it would be as good.Well, Opinel surprised me by coming out in a nice colorful pattern and after buying my wife a purple Opinel 07, I got the blue 08 to try. By all means do not tske my opinion the wrong way, for its pricepoint this knife is pretty good, especially for someone getting a knife for the first time, it is an awesome entry level knife. The blade is sharp, not very, but enough that I sliced paper and was pleased with stabbing a carboard box a few times rather easily. The color makes me enjoy this knife a little more and the fact that I can do daily activities with this knife should I choose and not be sad if let's say it chipped, broke or got lost, I would say it is definitely work the less than $20 pricetag. However, I am wishing I went with the Opinel 09 or bigger for the extra blade and handle, but it is in no way the fault of the knife. Overall, i really like this knife and plan to use it as a beater knife, knowing I can always get the normal wood handle version for cheaper makes it that much sweeter. If you're looking into a gift, an entry knife or just something unique, give it a try. It may surprise you as it has me.
