This thing moves air!
I use this fan in the bedroom to help circulate the air from the AC, and it works wonders. I bought one of their smaller models about 15 years ago, and it’s still going strong, so I decided to pick up this one. The quality is just as impressive. The fan is designed for easy cleaning—everything comes apart so you can remove any hair or grit that builds up around the blades. On the lowest setting, it's whisper quiet, yet it still moves a good amount of air, comparable to a cheap box fan on medium or high. On medium, you'll hear a slight whoosh, and it creates significant air pressure—enough to push air through a comforter or light blanket from five to ten feet away. On the highest setting, it does get pretty loud, with noticeable blade noise and a strong whooshing sound, but the amount of air it moves is impressive. The build quality is excellent. None of the parts feel delicate. The switch has a solid, quality feel to it, the blades are thick, and the fan's body is made of durable plastic that seems like it could withstand a strong impact. The stand is a sturdy metal tube. Overall, this fan feels like a "buy it for life" product, not something you'll be replacing anytime soon.

Rugged and efficient for shop use and the look is beautiful enough to use anywhere in the house
Very sturdy. Easy to clean. Compact . Spinning propeller diameter not wide but blades at steep angle and can blow much more air than larger fans I have had . Completely quiet ball bearing motor but any high velocity fan will make some sound due to turbulent air flow. That sound is minimal here given the spiral front screen which minimizes airflow resistance . On the low setting it still moves lots of air and is hard to hear . A ceiling fan with no screen and lower speed will always be quieter. Our living room has a very high ceiling ( as high as the house itself ) . In the summer hot air rises and cold air moves down. Even with a ceiling fan high up in the living room the upstairs gets unbearably hot and the downstairs gets ice cold. I put this fan on the living room floor blowing cold air up the staircase. I bought 2 more of these fans to further distribute cold air in the upper level. . The airflow is strong and focused if you want to point it into a particular room. Problem solved. On each side of the fan is a swivel knob to adjust the tilt angle. The soft foam washer needs to be against the fan, then the metal part of the stand ,then the hard plastic washer, then the yellow tightening knob. Then the swivel angle never slips . The design is gorgeous, like a 1920's Danish modern Poul Henningsen lamp. Tough as nails but not industrial looking. A work of art that will last forever.

POWERFUL AND QUIET
For a relatively small fan, this guy is a powerhouse. I purchased it intending to use it in the garage, but it is so effective and quiet that I'm now using it indoors and will have to buy another for the garage, which is just fine because I like it so well. It has three power settings: low, medium and high. I have not used the high setting because there has been no need to. I have three other Vornado fans, and this one has to be my favorite because it does such a fine job of circulating the air and it's so quiet. The only thing I felt it needed was two lock washers to help hold the body in place during operation. After adding one lock washer to each of the two knobs, it stays in place beautifully. This is indeed a high quality product, as are all Vornado circulators, and you can't beat the 5 year warranty and US-based service. Vornado is the only brand of fan I use and can recommend it highly.

293HD is quiet, powerful, and is easy to move around
Vornado fans move a lot of air with their patented designed grill (the shape of the blades and the plastic that extends out helps move air on this model as well). This model is comparable to http://www.amazon.com/Vornado-660-Air-Circulator-Speeds/dp/B0025QKUE8/ref=pd_sim_hg_5 - 54 watts (about 100 dollars with 4 speeds), http://www.amazon.com/Vornado-733B-Full-size-Whole-Circulator/dp/B000MI3HJQ/ref=pd_bxgy_hg_img_z - 84 watts (about 100 dollars with 3 speeds), http://www.amazon.com/Vornado-Full-Size-Circulator-Adustable-Height/dp/B000E5XNAK/ref=pd_sim_hg_6 - 84 watts (about 120-130 dollars with 3 speeds) and then finally the 293HD which is about 120-130 dollars (with 3 speeds). These fans are all presented in slightly different packages. The 660 model is all black, electric push button controls that allow you to go to 4 different speeds and includes a beep sound after the push (allows for push button shut off and on), and with a smaller stand than the HD can sit on counter tops and in smaller areas. The 733B has a different stand than the 660 model and is also black. The 783 extends upwards to 48 inches. If your a Vornado user already, or your looking to try out one of the best models, I recommend that you check out the models listed above and take some time to read a few reviews and take a look at the specs on the Vornado website.I recommend this product based on:- Air flow (all three setting are useful for different situations, many people will be able to sleep on the first setting and maybe even second setting)and this particular model has a protruding grey piece of plastic to help strengthen air flow over other Vornado's in the model's I included up above- Durability with thick plastic, heavy duty strong handle, strong-heavy metal base, good thick rubber feet on base (padding on the handle will likely wear down over time depending on how you use the fan, but otherwise will serve its purpose for quite awhile anyways)- 10 foot cord (this I find to be very helpful with fans, and includes a fuse at the end of the cord)- Easy to pick up and move (four screws hold the handle in place) and I see the handle holding up over the lifespan of the fan- Fan can be taken off the metal base, mounted (with mounting equipment included), and or used without the stand- 293HD is supposed to be best in dusty areas and sealed to withstand those types of conditionsIt's nice to see a Vornado fan in something different other than the usual Vornado black, white, or all grey models.Update: Nov. 16th 2016, still works the same years later with heavy usage. Recommend using a thicker rubber washer (found at the hardware store), over the one that is provided. The one that is provided fell apart after a few months of use, and didn't work very well to keep the fan in position. This is a great fan that is easy to move around and use. I recommend this Vornado 783 Full-Size Whole Room Air Circulator, Adjustable Height if you're looking for more air flow, and a better position off the ground. Both are different fans, great in their own unique way.

Lid cover latches broke after 3 years of solid use
Great fan but lid latch pins broke off after a few years. Now it is dangerous for use especially with handsy kids. Product is great. Moves air around room and I would give it 4 1/5 stars but lid latch on pins needs reinforcement.

Amazing quality.
I’m using this fan for plants and it’s been on for 5 years 24/7. Yes I clean it but hands down the best fan I’ve ever had. Total quality. Quiet, efficient, if I could give it 10 stars I would. Costs more but works forever.
