What size are the vinyls?

About 2 inches in diameter. The music is generated from the box via a code on the disc. The discs themselves do not play. The playing arm is the switch on and off. Move over the disc and it starts. Hope this helps. It really is an amazing little thing!

Are they German Christmas tunes?

I believe there are no words it's just music, but as it's being kept as an advent calendar for December then I don't know for sure but I had a look at youtube which has a video of someone playing the tunes to give you an idea. That's what I based my purchase on.
