Buy this can opener, you won't be disappointed!
UPDATE (one year later): Lasted nearly one full year. Still very satisfied!! Just stopped working but definitely got a lot of use out of it!Finally a can opener that works! This is the third can opener I have purchased in only nine months and hopefully the last for quite some time. It opens cans easily and without hassle. The knob is very easy to turn and the blade is sharp. Seems to be a high quality can opener and absolutely worth the price!

Worked for awhile, then broke. There are better options out there.
This is pretty much junk. It worked really well for about 7 months; nice and smooth no real rough edges, etc. Then it worked sporadically for another 4 or 5 months. Had to re-set the position on the can, clamp and re-clamp it down, etc. Then after about a year, it just stopped working at all. The gears wouldn't spin correctly and it wouldn't grip the can. The blade is still sharp, I assume, but the spring in the handle -- which is flimsy -- probably was shot. I mean, it's $9, so I don't expect much, but you're better off going with something like the EZ-DUZ-IT Deluxe Can Opener with Black Grips model.I'm sorry I bought this one.

So far, it's a winner.
So far, so good. I've had this opener for a few weeks now and it seems to function well. I don't use it daily, but I am highly critical (of can openers in general) when I do use it. (I have owned 5 different can openers in the last several years and they all lasted less than 2 months. I recall my grandmother having the opener for over a decade...) When I made this purchase it was with extreme prejudice. I can say that so far I have opened about 10 cans with this and all have been smooth and easy in operation and results; it is comfortable to hold (I have smallish hands and this is not a strain to use like some openers I have had). It arrived quickly and with the packaging in good order.I will update once I have used this a bit more.

Good, but is not lasting quality...

Crappy Quality. Both times.
I bought one, it broke...thought it might be an anomaly...nope. Second one did same thing. Cheap metal. Stripped Gears, TWICE.Initially, for a very short period of time this can opener works great. Pretty soon it starts slipping, fast downhill to "completely worthless" from there.

Works nicely. Has plastic handles.
So I had one of the "safe" can openers. But, it would not open every can and finally frazzled the part that grabbed the can. Ergo, I needed something else.To Amazon! Enter a search and filter the results. I utilize Prime. I like discounts. This is a nice can opener. It pierces the top and leaves the old fashion jagged edge. You have to be careful. But, it opens the can well. The claim is tis is stainless steel. Perhaps. The crank is plastic. The handles are plastic with chrome accents.I'll update this review if this opener fails or falters. I deducted a star as the description promises more than the product delivers as far as construction.

Resource for Cooking Stainless Steel Manual Can Opener
This is an excellent can opener. Very easy to use and works well. Thinking this is perfect for friends who have arthritis in their hands. Very pleased and the price is excellent. I'm sort of picky when it comes to can openers and could not find one in a box store that I liked. Took a risk buying this one online and happy I did.

A deep disappointment.
I’m sad to have to say it, but this is the worst can opener of all time. I bought it five months ago and it is already unable to properly open even a can of beans. The saddest part is, I think this is the second time I’ve bought this can opener. When the first one went bad, I thought, “this must be a fluke.” You see, we’re truly living in the age of miracle and wonder — think of the boy in the bubble, or the baby with the baboon heart. Man has sent probes to Mars, and the wondrous information of the world can be delivered to a beautiful device you can hold in the palm of your hand. So surely, given the great technological achievements of mankind, those who have pledged their lives to the creation of can openers must truly have an advantage, given that they can apply the great energy of human striving to the time-honored task of creating a beautiful, functional can opener that remains cost effective. Doubtless, there are tried-and-true elements of can opener design that could have been applied here that would have made the user’s experience a true joy. So imagine my dismay when, after a few short months of mild domestic use opening a couple of cans of chick peas each week to make hummus, this can opener was rendered useless just like its predecessor. The gears don’t fully mesh, and though the initial puncture of the can goes smoothly, the gears begin grinding and slipping after a couple of turns, and the angle of entry becomes skewed, marring the integrity of the shape of the can, and shaving bits of the can’s label onto the countertop. It is only by much wrestling and foul language, along with the prying of a kitchen knife, that one can finally gain entrance to the can. And each use of this can opener thereafter leaves it in worse shape than before. I suspect that the metal halves of the unit, which bend easily, have moved just enough to make the gears grind. Described as “stainless steel,” the unit lacks the robust quality that these words suggest. I have even tried repairs to no avail, but being a busy man and not a can opener expert, my (admittedly desultory) repair attempts have been futile. When I bought this can opener I thought that it was entirely reasonable to suppose that one could spend just under ten dollars and have a can opener that would last ten, perhaps twenty years of casual domestic kitchen use. Moreover, its elegant, understated black on stainless steel design showed that the creators might care about aesthetic, and that this care might extend to the technological challenges of the design. But alas, it seems that the folks at Resource For Cooking are only interested in making a quick buck at the expense of every-man.I do not know where I will find the can opener that will once again restore my faith in humanity. But rest assured it is not, nor will it ever be, this one.
