Does this block the smell as well

No. It is an open unit with lots of tiny holes to allow water through but stop hair and other objects getting into the waste pipe. As it is full of holes, unfortunately it won't prevent any smell from standing water or previous blockages.

What is the difference between sinkshroom and tubshroom? Is the tubshroom bigger?

The Tubshroom fits drain between 1.25 inch to 2.0 inch drains. The sinkshroom fits 1.1 inch to 1.5 inch, so yes, the tubshroom is bigger.

Can this be used in basins ?

If your basin has a grid across the neck, then it cannot be used. The Hair Drain Catcher I s about 4 cm long and needs to be in a tube / pipe that is unrestricted.

Does it also work as a plug so you can have a bath?

No, but it does work in a bath. I put it in quickly after taking the plug out. It works very well.
