All metal. No broken pieces, or failure at 1 year old. Still perfect. No to insurance.

Can I put a boxspring on this bed?

I would say no, it is a platform bed made for mattress only, would be way too high. I use mattress only and it is almost too high.

What size Allen wrench and does it require a regular screwdriver or just Allen wrench?

I don't know what size it is, but an allen wrench is included in the bag that contains the hardware. I don't remember needing any other tools.

I know it's says no box spring needed? Would it ok to put both on bed?

A box spring really isn’t needed. In my opinion as a person who purchased this frame, it wouldn’t serve a purpose, would make the bed level extremely high and take away from the design of the frame. Just an opinion though can’t hurt to try.
