It doesn't look like it would be effective, but the results tell a different story
I originally bought this for my older long-haired cat who was no longer properly grooming and became matted, thinking it would be more tolerable than other brushes on the market because of the wider and longer prongs, as he quickly rejected being brushed by all other efforts. This one he did find comfort with and we had success with it. He is no longer with me, sadly, but 2 other cats that have shorter hair have proven that it's great for them too. My Jasper is at his peak shedding point right now, and my Monarch had his a couple months ago~ brothers, but very different fur types. I started brushing Jasper today, and got a lot of fur off in just a couple minutes before Monarch came charging in after hearing the sound of the brushing and demanding it be his turn. Got a good amount of fur off him too in a couple minutes despite it not being his peak shedding time. They love it, and I love it too. And I can say, with having had 3 cats with very different types of fur, this has been my go-to brush for all of them, and they have all approved with purrs. Photo to show the amount of fur taken off Monarch (past his big shedding stage), the brush for size comparison, then Jasper in peak shed after a 2-3 minute brushing each.)

Works as expected
Works great on my short hair cat. Shes older and has thick hair. The teeth aren’t rubber, they’re plastic but get the job done.

Excellent for some; not for all cats
Leo's Paw The Original Pet Hair Removal Massaging Shell CombThis small, long toothed comb is is very useful as an adjunct to long and semi-longhair cat grooming. Despite the odd form-factor, it's easy to hold, easy to clean, and works extremely well for touch-ups and deshedding. The comparatively wide spacing of the curved teeth make it a good choice for cats with sensitive skin and, being mostly flat, it fits comfortably in a small carrier pocket.Cats with medium-short fur usually require a comb with more narrowly spaced teeth for best grooming results (one point off, Leo's Paw), although it can work well if the fur is extremely dense. (I'm looking at you, Schroedinger.)

Must Have for Shorthaired Cats
When I started using it on my shorthaired cat I wasn’t expecting much. But it was amazing at removing the lose undercoat fur. Highly recommend!

Kitty massage? Yes. Fur collection? Nah.
It's nice for a little massage for the kitty, but it's horrible for collecting fur. I have to empty it every few brushes and it gets annoying. It's now only for the cat's chin and face.

Cat loves it
My cat loves it. Normally he sees the comb and runs. But lets us use this and seems to enjoy it. He is older and doesn't groom himself anymore. He has a thick undercoat that gets matted. This gently and easily remove the mats

I can even brush my mean cat!
I have 2 cats. One is MEAN and hisses if I pet her the wrong way. The other is the sweetest cat ever. I have never had an issue brushing the sweet one but the mean one wasn't having it. For some reason, she actually likes being brushed with this thing. Easy to hold, easy to use, easy to clean. Highly recommend. It's cute, too.

Doesn't hold on to the cat fur.
I have a short hair, sleek black cat and this does not work on his fur, nor does it like it. I also have a tan/grey tabby cat with medium fur. She likes it; however, it doesn't hold the fur in the comb it just falls out on her body, and it have to grab it.
