Will this work with 5.1 brake fluid?

Thanks for asking. The ITEQ Brake Fluid Tester works with DOT 3, DOT 4 and DOT 5.1 brake fluids but not with DOT 5 Brake Fluid. The main difference between DOT 4 and DOT 5.1 brake fluids is in their boiling points. DOT 4 and DOT 5.1 are both glycol-based brake fluids which are used widely in the automotive and cycle industry. They are compatible with each other, which means they can be readily mixed without harming your brake system. But please never mistake with DOT 5 which is silicone-based and should never be mixed with any other DOT fluid. Hope these information can be help with you.

Why it says here also for dot 3 and package says for dot 4?

Hi, the tester works for both dot 3 and dot 4 brake fluid. And the dot 4 liquid is more widely applied because it has better performance than dot 3 liquid. The package will be changed.

Dipping just the tip of the prongs seems to give an accurate reading. When you submerge them all the way per the instructions it reads red??

No, you need to dip the prongs all the way to the plastic rim to get a reliable reading. If you dip only the tips, the tester may indicate less moisture than what's really present.

My sonata has a plastic strainer at top. how can i get the probes past that? how to remove strainer?

I don't have a Hyundai, but my Nissan has the strainer, and it is removable. Maybe try and see if yours is removable. I just stuck my finger in and applied outward pressure to the wall and it eventually lifted out. Hope it helps. The device definitely works though.
