Similar to acetone. It too is a solvent.
If you have tried to purchase this at your local auto parts store then more than likely you left with a plastic bottle made of soy something. That’s what happened when I sent my daughter to get this exact formula. She took a pic of the bottle and came back a bottle almost exactly like this one except it was made of soy. This is a review for the real deal alcohol solvent that I’ve only been able to find on Amazon. So if you’re looking for the ole school stuff used in the 80s to early 2000s, this is your product made of alcohol not soy. You do not want to know what cleaning grease and grime is like using a soy solvent. This cleans anything, but beware, if it’s a painted product without a sealer on it the paint will come off with the grease and grime if you make enough passes with a scrubbing motion. This a solvent similar to acetone. Works great!

Grease and paint remover!
This is more like wax and paint remover. It was stripping paint off of the car. If the clear coat is gone this takes me right through base coat and primer..

It's Acetone... NOT safe for all surfaces and EXPENSIVE
The claim on the bottle: "Cleans and Degreases Metal, Plastic, and Fiberglass"The other claim on the back and in this ad: "product removes dirt, road tar, grease, wax and oil from ANY surface without leaving a film residue." (emphasis mine) Well, it is predominantly Acetone per the SDS and label. Smells like Acetone and behaves like acetone. We use acetone to clean our tools that have cured polyester resin on them! That's fiberglass resin, if you don't know. Is cured resin more resilient than uncured resin? Yes, it is but it is still softened by acetone. So is PVC, some paints, polystyrene, Etcetera. In other words you are buying very expensive acetone that is not safe on any surface as they claim and should be used with discretion on plastics and other surfaces. I use a PPG product that does not contain acetone or any other strong solvent and works great. DX330, but it was discontinued so I was looking for an alternative. THIS IS NOT IT!Acetone is half the price at a big box store for a quart. Something I found that is close to DX330 is Prep-All. I was able to get it at my local auto parts store next day and it was only $30 for a gallon! Standard components are naphtha and toluene. Kleen-Strip brand.
