Better Than HP, So Far
6 stars when you put it against any HP printer.I can actually print from my phone. No USB connected to my laptop.Best of all, it actually prints. My HP Smart Tank stopped wanting to print after 1 month. It always failed to print black. Sometimes it failed on the colors.I replaced heads. I drained the ink and added new ink. Nothing worked.

Very easy to set up with Macbook Pro
Just received, and so far, so good. Very easy to set up. Good instructions, which direct you to the Brother website to download the software to load onto my Macbook Pro. Clear, simple process to connect to wi-fi took maybe 10 minutes (and I'm not tech savvy). Printing quality and speed seem fine.

Sturdy and Reliable Printer with Easy Set-up
Hello,I never write reviews but just in case this helps anyone else. I looked at a lot of reviews for home office printers and seems everyone has a vehemently negative review out there for every brand on the market. I got a bit discouraged thinking I would have trouble no matter what printer I ended up with. I was afraid of buying a printer that would be a headache to setup, because though I'm technically considered a "millenial" I'm actually not great with technology--I need something that plugs in and is super easy and straightforward to use! (In my defense I did grow up in the analog era and I kind of miss it...). I do not need a printer that connects to an app or has smart functionality; I don't really care about LED screens. I just need a printer that works! At the last minute my brother suggested Brother printers. So far I'm satisfied with the purchase. I chose this model because I didn't want to pay over $200. I need something that can print a lot of documents though perhaps not every day. It is primarily for student use, so it will need to handle high volume printing and occasional color, and preferrably not guzzle ink.In a nutshell:1. Setup was straightforward and as easy as it can be. Walks you through every step. No mishaps.2. Time from pulling it out of the box, running print check, to printing my first document was about 35 minutes. :)3. Printed off 75+ sheets in BW and Color right away with the starter ink cartridges and haven't run out yet--nor does it seem to be running low. I know some people had trouble with their ink running out right away, but mine was fine!In short, if you're looking for a reliable and sturdy printer without too many bells and whistles, straightforward and easy to use out of the box, I think you could consider this one. I am happy with my purchase so far and I never write reviews. But I thought this might be helpful in case anyone else was sifting through reviews like I did, feeling discouraged about the options. One of the criticisms about this printer is how long it takes to warm up before each print. It does take a couple of seconds but it isn't really noticeable to me. If you always need to print things off in a hurry though, this might be something to consider--but I barely notice it, and printing is pretty fast once the printer has warmed up.Hope this helps someone.Update 3/2/2023: Amazon let me know this had 100 helpful votes, so just thought I would update to let anyone know that I have printed almost 1,500 sheets and counting on the starter ink cartridges and it’s still going. The low ink/toner notification light came on about 500+ pages ago but I don’t like to waste ink so I have been using every last drop and it hasn’t run out yet. Except for a slight decrease in the brightness and sharpness of the color all the documents are printing fine. I no longer notice any warm-up time and the printer is still sturdy and works well. I am happy with the copy function and overall still pleased with the purchase!

Dubious
I was worried about the software not being designed for the printer. The software that is downloaded to pc says to press the wireless button, but there isn't any wireless button. I searched on google for the wireless button for that model and google suggests there isn't one. The cell app similarly says I must press the wireless button, but there isn't any button that says wireless on the printer.Youtube says to download the app, and press the 'stop' button so the printer shows on the cell app. But the cell app finds out what my printer model is, and won't let me proceed unless I press the wireless button. The app forces me to lie about pressing the wireless button to proceed.I was later able to find the wireless button. The wireless icon on the button was the same color as the button, and was quite difficult to see. The software then worked.Under a month after purchase, my wireless router randomly switched the passwords, disconnecting all my gadgets, and costing my many hours on tech support resetting everything, likely for the 3rd instance of my AT&T router resetting all the passwords and costing me many hours on tech support with other organizations whos gadgets no longer worked. My Brother printer stopped working because the AT&T router was entitled to switch the passwords about to mysterious passwords. I could not reset the wireless information on the brother printer using any guides on google or in other searches. When I tried to contact Brother, the brother-usa.com website didn't actually have any way to reach anyone. The contact us button confirmed that there was chat and phone, but no buttons were obvious that were the actual chat or phone.Google listed a mysterious phone number.Position in Que: 25Estimated Wait Time: 19 minutes------------On 2-5-23 I located a file associated with a Brother printer I bought on Amazon, and was able to erase part of the file, and this allowed my wireless internet to work decently for the first time since a 7pm 2-3-23 crash of my internet that I reported to IC3.But, the Brother files keep re-appearing, and are associated with wireless traffic that I cannot control.I had returned the Brother printer quickly, a few days ago, after I noted that their customer service was not available, and after the printer could not sync with my wireless in numerous days of attempts."Software update notification" was impossible to uninstall despite returning the printer. It was associated with a cantonese or japanese script error message during a force deletion of some of the files in the folder. My google maps suddenly started working, slightly, at more locations, with the Brother file partially removed. But on 2-5-23 a 4:15 pm, I was again not 'allowed' to use internet, a common effect for me as a disabled person, where in I am targeted first in cyber crimes for being disabled. I was able to force close Steam, and the wireless was working again. But at 7:00 pm on the 5th, the wireless was again not working, with no access to websites, or IC3, and I was able to get it working by erasing another Brother file, in programfiles(x86)/Browny02. Again, I was not allowed to erase the file completely. But, deleting the componants that I was allowed to delete did then mean I was allowed to use the internet despite being disabled.

Conneccted to home wifi immediately. I can even print from my UBUNTU laptop! great quality!
I dowbloaded the app to my android phone and was connected to my home wifi in 5 minutes. I can print through USB from a Windows desktop, andequally fast from any laptop in thehouse, INCLUDING the one which runs UBUNTU (a Linux OS). The prints look very beautiful with vivid colors. I am very happy (so far...)

Nice printer but a big ink problem
The printer works well but ignore the "TANK" in the description. It comes with a set of tanks that are supposed to last "up to a year." Ours didn't make it a month. Next set we bought also lasted about a month. I was so very much hoping to get away from having to buy ink so often. ALSO the printer won't print black and white if any of the color "tanks" is out. So the page doesn't require any cyan? The printer refuses to print your black and white page unless you buy and install cyan. I like the printer very much: I hate the ink problem.
