Does this still require a modem or can it connect directly to the master socket?

Hi, the Unifi UDM-PRO does not have a built in VDSL modem. If your internet provider operates over a BT line you will require a VDSL modem. For Virgin and cable based providers you will need to put the exiting router/modem into Modem mode. Many Thanks LinITX

Can I connect my google wifi to this? Instead of adjusting straight to the full unifi kit?

Technically yes, you can plug any network device into one of the switch ports and it will behave just like any other internet router. Of course you only get the full benefit of the Dream Machine Pro when you are using the inbuilt UniFi network management controller and the any of the other supported features such as the Protect Camera system (which I use and is excellent), Access door entry system and the Talk voice system.
