Unit will step down to usb 2. That’s how I’m using it, faster with USB 3.

Yes. This is a typical external USB drive and will able to be recognized by any modern Linux kernel. Most desktop - focused distributions will auto-mount the drive. Server focused distributions may require knowledge of fstab and other cli methods.

Will this work with an Xbox series X?

Reformat it to exFaAT on a PC/laptop then its usable on Xbox

can you use it on a ps5

Yes it works on PS5. Plug it in go to storage, external drive and format it. It takes less than a minute and your done. I have a 6TB, 8TB and this 12TB. The 6 was my first of these 4 years ago and that one is still going strong. You can't beat these for the price.
