Right Brain, Right Idea
I can't describe how exciting it is to follow the teachings in this book. The author has found a way to deconstruct, and then describe in clear terms, how accomplished artists draw. As Betty Edwards explains, usually when people who can draw are asked how they do it, they come up short. They just can, they don't know how! The author however both can draw and she can describe how she does it. Through a series of practical exercises, she teaches how artists see the world. This book will be a revelation to anyone who has always wanted to draw. It will satisfy your left brain need for clear and logical explanations, as well as your right brain need to see the world anew, and depict it through line and edge, through light and space. I started 2014 with the desire to discover the artist within me and to manifest that. This book is enabling just that. It's a miracle

Seems to go off track at times but already a valuable addition
First the cons:- This book is very wordy and goes in to pages of depth about how the brain works and how this relates to art. It’s a bit too much for a person who just wants to draw and it feels a bit like ‘bro science’.Now the good:- Im only part way through and some of the techniques and pointers are very good! Some things are obvious on reflection but not so obvious beforehand and Betty makes sure you are told what you need to know. The above picture is my 4th following the exercises in the book. Still lessons to learn and room to improve but overall I’m happy and wouldn’t have done it without the book.

Just buy the book.
I wish i had bought this book, when i first heard about it/ read it on a youtube comment. This books really helps you to learn to draw. Buy the actual book , physical book. I made the mistake of downloading a pdf, tried one exercise then immediately gave up. Few months later, did a search on the net for "best drawing book" this BOOK kept coming up,took me a week to finish reading and completing the exercises. This is just the beginning, now that i have unlocked the right side of my brain, i see things differently, like how i would actually draw it. I still have a lot to learn. The main thing i have overcome is the belief " I Can't draw",I hope this review helps you. I gave this book 5 stars because it is the best book for complete beginners, i have read few others, they get too technical. YOU really do need the awareness/ knowledge of the right brain to draw. This is a good starting book.

This book works!
I oil paint quite seriously but have never had formal drawing training. This book took me all through the necessary exercises and explanations to see a sudden, secure and lasting improvement. I recommend it highly. Just work through it with the author and I am pretty sure you will see a marked improvement.

Anyone can draw !
Anyone who thinks they can't draw should read this book. There is a lot of information of a scientific nature which, though very wordy, is worth reading to make sense of the whole concept of drawing on the right side of the brain. The exercises are very well explained and I would thoroughly recommend making and using your own viewfinders and glass pane. I simply bought a picture frame and took out the glass, then taped it with masking tape. Add two A4 pieces of stiff black card used to cut out the viewfinders and you're ready to go.Who knew drawing could be so simple !
