STANLEY 3 Piece Set Sharpening Stone and Oil with Honing Guide, 0-16-050

Having purchased a couple of the eclipse style jigs that clamp from the side and are prone to shift as you sharpen. This design is far superior the chisel or plane blade, it does both , is firmly clamped in position from above and below with 2 screws that can be tightened to beyond the point were the metal would start to bend. It has a fold out protrusion guide with 25, 30 and 35 degrees clearly marked on it. Because it holds the blade so rigidly you can put a razor sharp edge on your plane irons and chisels very quickly whether you are using waterstones , diamond plates or just sand paper. The oilstone and honing oil are so so but this is worth the price for the jig alone.

Sharpens great but setting up is a little fiddly at first but you soon get used to it

I got this to sharpen some old chisels I had. Have to admit the instructions were a bit pants, I had to go on YouTube to work out how to use the angle guide. But, I followed the instructions and now all my chisels and my plane have a nice edge on them ( the plane blade was a tad too wide for the stone and I had to angle it, but it worked)The stone itself was in good condition, seems some people got damaged ones in the past.It might not be something a professional would buy, but I can't think why not. It did the job for me and quite well I thought.Arrived quickly and no issues.

Better than no guide at all, but not a high quality item. The clamp adjusting screws feel rough in their threads, and even when tightened fully do not hold the chisel particularly firmly or indeed straight. The guide for setting the cutting angle is very 'plasticy' and vague - better to adjust the clamping angle by checking by eye that the bevel of the chisel is lying flat on the stone. The stone itself is OK, with supposedly a different grade on each side - but actually it's hard to decide which is the coarse and which the fine! Somewhat surprised that Stanley are prepared to put their name to this product!

For sharpening chisels and plane blades.Not sure how long the plastic guide will last or get lost. However the jig gives extension tool distances for appropriate angles. This information can be used to construct a timber extension tool distance jig for a range of angles which would be much more accurate - illustrated on the internet.It is essential that your tool is at right angles to the jig - use a small accurate engineers square to achieve this.This jig has a very good clamping system to ensure the tool does not move when sharpening.Hope the above is helpful.Peter Dayuse small engineers square to

Only bought this for the guide (why is it not sold separately any more?) as it is the only guide I know that can hold narrow (3 mm) chisels , firmer and mortise chisels, and cutters that do not have parallel sides. I find the Eclipse honing guide is better for everything else, mostly because this is so fiddly to get the blade square.It also feels a bit cheap and weak-you can see the top beam bending when you do the screws up, and the plastic rollers are already scuffed after just a few uses. The plastic angle guide is a nice touch, but I can't see it lasting very long.Would have happily paid more for a more robust tool.

Chisel sharpening block, simple and easy to use

Having read many of the reviews regarding this product, I decided to take the plunge and buy one for myself. I should have saved my money.The guide is very cheaply made (I've seen better products made in China).I have used this once to try and sharpen several wood chisels I own. The threads on the guide locking screws and the clamp are very poorly machined (I will be very surprised if they last through my next attempt at sharpening my chisels). The 'blade' guide doesn't exist, and as for its longevity, I am in no doubt that it will not stand the test of time.I have read several of the reviews again, and I question as to whether they are talking about to same product 🤔 🤷‍♂️.Years ago, I owned a sharpening guide which was far superior to this one, and it only cost a 1/5th of what this cost.If I hadn't already used it, I would have returned it for a refund.PS: I gave this product 1*, it was the lowest I could give to be able to post my comment. The reality, it's not worth 1*. SAVE YOUR MONEY!!! 🤬
