They climb into the pouch and finish their developement there. These are some of the coolest animals to come out of Australia (oh, yes, Tasmania is considered part of Australia!).

It worked perfect for my daughters diorama! It was a bit on the small side but still much better than me trying to mold one out of clay!

My five year old is obsessed with Tasmanian devils, which toy wise is a hard order to fill. This little guy was a huge hit Christmas morning.
