Works great
Works great! Wasn’t expecting it to work so well for the price, but works just as well as pricier blenders I’ve had in the past.

The blender failed after 4 months of once per week use.
The gasket has a strong tendency to become unlodged from its groove and winds itself around the blade. When it does this it almost stops the motor: almost but not quite. This the worst thing you can do to a motor because when it happens the motor draws much higher amperage than normal and so, inevitably, one of the windings burns out. I assume this is what happened because the motor will not start anymore. Its not like I left it running while seized for any length of time: I never left it running unattended. It just happened once too often I guess. At, I tried to return the blender but the manufacturer makes this so difficult that I attempted it three times only to find I was "missing" some key information. I bought this based on a Consumer Reports recommendation. Obviously, this was a bad strategyFollowup: I bought a Ninja Nutripro to replace the Starfrit: It came last night and I used it this morning. The difference between these two blenders cannot be overstated. The Ninja well made, easy to use, is very heavy duty, and most importantly, performed effortlessly on a smoothie consisting of yogurt, frozen fruit, and milk. But the biggest difference in terms of performance, is the basic mechanical design: they recess the gasket into a deep, narrow grove that the single-serve cup threads into so that it is physically impossible for the gasket to come out while blending. I bought the Starfrit based on a Consumers Reports recommendation and did not look too closely at the spec and such. The Ninja may not have a fancy recommendation, and while it is certainly much more expensive; the difference in quality just goes to show that, sometimes, you really do get what you pay for.

Lasts about a year, maybe
If you use this fairly regularly be prepared for it to start having motor issues. Even with light stuff in it sometimes it overheats and stops working when it does. Fail safe I suppose but when you’re trying to make something and don’t have time to let it cool off you better have a backup plan. Built not to last. Yup. Today’s mfg motto.

Sealing ring falls out every time you unscrew the lid.
Blends very good. The only complaint I have, is that as soon as you start to unscrew the lid you can feel the sealing ring come out, frequently falls into whatever you have just blended. This is my second Starfrit blended, and the first one does not do this.

A disappointment
The blender had been returned with handwriting by the previous receiver in the booklet. The blender would not work which should not have been sent out as it was returned by another customer which I believe did not work for them either. I tossed it in the trash so no one else would have to receive a blender would not work as I didn't have time to return it with visiting my husband in a nursing home. I hope everyone has a Blessed Christmas.

GNC one lasted 6 years. Starfrit lasted 8 days. Total junk.
The original version of this made for GNC years ago lasted 6 years, so hopes were high for this one. Save your money, it's total junk. Lasted 8 days of use (once per morning). When it worked it worked well. But on the 8th morning after 2 pulses and 10 seconds of blending it started smoking and died.

It stops working after only using it 6 times!
It is a very nice set and I thought was reasonably priced. Worked great for the first 5 uses. After that it would never start. I only used it to make protein shakes.Save your money!
