growing fodder for my chickens and turkeys, 7 trays worth, to give variety in the winter. Last year I got a 50# sack of wheat locally, had a lot of loose debris I needed to agitate and pour off. This barley seed is very clean and produces robust growth both in the roots and sprouts. I use a quart mason jar, half filled with seed, soak 1 day. Pour contents in tray (mine are 10x14x4". Add a TB bleach in jar fill with water, dump over seed, slosh around, drain and rinse seed 2X, let tray drain (holes drilled on one end of tray), Tray is on a rack (another tray on shelf below) in a south facing window. Add water morning and night....and watch the seeds sprout.

These barley seeds germinate quickly and grow even faster. My cat doesn’t eat them, but definitely enjoys playing with the grass!

The media could not be loaded. I had a small packet of cat grass that listed it specifically as Hordeum Vulgare under the species name so I decided to find some bulk barley seed more inexpensively. I have been growing pots of this for a year now and my kitty loves it. I have sown often and generously and I've even given bags of seed to friends that are cat owners yet I still have most of the bag left. My cat loves to munch on this grass, or just to sit by it, I can tell she is happier when I am constantly growing this stuff. She is an indoor cat who used to want to run outside so that she could eat grass, now she wants to run outside just to explore and play, it seems she needed some greens in her diet and this does the trick at a great price compared to most of the stuff specifically branded as cat grass. If I ever somehow run out, or the seeds lose their viability I wouldn't hesitate to buy another big bag of this stuff.

I ordered this for my chickens to make fodder. I have used another brand before but it was more intense and the outcome was not so satisfactory. I just soaked these per the instructions for 8-12 hours, laid out on a towel to air dry, put them in a parmesan cheese jar and rinsed them and left them on the towel again to dry and they already have decent roots. My chickens love them. If you put them in the non-air tight container and they are a little wet still, I shake them several times and they seem to continue to do just fine. Every 3 or 4 days I end up giving all of them to my chickens who cluck with happiness at their treat and start a new batch.

planted in a protected place, let them grow and get happy, then let my chickens in and they love the barley grass!
