Masanobu FukuokaThe One-Straw Revolution: An Introduction to Natural Farming (New York Review Books Classics)

Must Read
This is an amazing enlightening book about all that went wrong to produce meat/food for large human population across the globe in last one century. This would confirm how humans with their limited understanding of nature is fiddling with it at an unprecedented scale that can lead to large scale problems we would never be able to overcome. Modern agriculture is leading to desertification of soil impacting many lives (insects, birds, worms etc.) dependent on it and giving us no nutrition food purely grown of chemicals like fertilizers, insecticides, weedicides etc. Book tells and discusses right corrective action to fix the issues from the root cause instead of treating symptoms.

Pure Bliss
There shouldn't be any rating for this kind of books, any one who cares for life and the real problems of humanity will keep all Fukuoka books in heart. You like it or hate it, your opinion will reflect your personal interest than what book contains. This book is a tradition that whole humanity should follow for the sake of humanity. If we spoil the nature we will die, nature will never get spoiled. Desert sand or lush green landscapes nature embraces everything in it. Changes in nature only matters to humanity not for nature at all. If we go with nature we live with harmony and peace else we got lot of words to express it such as global warming, holes in ozone layer, sea level increase, vitamin-less food produce, what not.If you get involved in this book or any Fukuoka books, your heart will be able to hear the background music of nature, your words become poems, your blood slows down, you end up being a human. Pure bliss

Most worthy
Everyone should read this book. This is not a novel or any farming method. Masanobu Fukuoka was formely a microbiologist later turned into a zen farmer explaining how modern industrial farming and wonderful science was doing to the nature and humans. He is dedicated to Natural farming and explains how our human society got deteroiated with modern chemical farming. He emphasizes that living and working in a Nature way will provide healthy food, peaceful mind and wonderful life. This is simply a philosophical book that uses growing food based on doing nothing method. This is one of the best book i ever read.

Must read for farmer/gardener
As a novice rice farmer I found the concepts surprising. Bought the book to understand his method of rice cultivation; Fukuoka-san also talks about the direct and indirect effects of chemical farming, consumerism, govt policies etc.,.which I thought didn't exist then.

Truly inspirational.
I have been meaning to read this book for sometime but had preconceived ideas that it would be hard work to read. Not in the slightest and it has been a real page turner. Every page is full of wisdom and insight that is as relevant today as when it was written. Highly recommended.
