Cosmic-Another Great Book By Frank Cottrell Boyce
This story is narrated by 11-year-old, abnormally tall Liam. Liam is given a phone by his dad, which is connected to his dad's, so his dad can read Liam's texts and e-mails. Liam always goes on an app called Draxworld, which is very similar to our Google Images. The maker of Draxworld calls him, and invites him, and his child to test a new ride at Infinity Park, China, called 'The Rocket'. Liam accepts, and asks classmate Florida to pose as his daughter. But it turns out 'The Rocket'ride is literally a ride that blasts children into space. Liam is voted to take care of four children on board: Max, Samson Two, Hasan, and Florida. But when something goes wrong on the rocket,it's up to Liam to save them all. I recommend this book to children and adults; Age nine and up.

9 year old son loved this
i read this as a library book to my 9 yr old boy as his bedtime story and he loved it so much he wanted his own copy to re-read on his own. Let me just say that again... 9 year old boy wanted to re-read this on his own ...! if you struggle to get your boy to read then try any Frank Cotterell Boyce. Boyce writes real, fascinating, engaging characters in extraordinary situations. this story explores what it means to be responsible. the main character has to discover this for himself, and there's an interesting comparison between being seen to be responsible and actually choosing to act responsibly, all wrapped up in a very entertaining story about space. good level of vocab.

Perfect class text!
I've been reading Cosmic with my year 5 class (9-10 year olds) and they love it! Each time I finish a chapter and close the book they complain and ask for more. It's become a bit of a reward - "If you get all your writing done before lunch , we'll be able to read some more of Cosmic this afternoon!" Humorous and relatable!

It's a good book!
Bought this during the first lockdown as it was the text being read in school by my child's class before the first lockdown. I had to buy the actual book as it was easier to refer to it whilst doing the home learning thus avoiding the overuse of the screen unnecessarily. It's a good story and we enjoyed reading it and using it for the home learning.

Stellar
Cottrell Boyce is hugely under rated as a writer in my opinion. His books never fail to impress and always leave me wrung out emotionally in the best possible way. He has an uncanny knack for getting into the thoughts of a child and making the reader see how profound they are, whilst at the same time making them cry tears of laughter, or just tears. In this story Liam, a precociously tall boy, who is always being mistaken for an adult, takes on the role of his dad when offered a once in a life time chance to go into space.Whatever else I tell you about this book will not do it justice. It is the nuances, the inflections, the attention to detail and the empathy that makes this book so wonderful. If you start with this book just make sure that you go back and read Millions and Framed as well, because they're just as good.
