What a fantastic play
I had heard from people who had seen it, that the writing lacked something, but the spectacle of it was amazing. I beg to differ. I found the play compelling, and though provoking. The staging of it does possess challenges, but its portrayal and exploration of an autistic world was fantastic. I highly recommend this play.

Reading this play not as good as seeing it
I found it hard to understand or feel the momentum of this play until I saw it done by the National Theatre group. It is a difficult and somewhat convoluted story depending almost entirely on the acting ability of a teenager with an Asperger's - like illness. Which does grate on one after a while. The ultimate "success" of the hero was heartening and maybe believable though he was a difficult person to have around.

Curious
Autism is a very difficult situation for families who need to deal with the behaviors and explain them to others. This book deals with many of the idiosyncrasies and demonstrates how only patience and love can help bring out the full potential of these individuals.

Brilliant
Great characters - so much more than a childrenβs book - itβs story about life, and how difficult living can be - almost as difficult as solving for βnβ in you A Level exam - touching - human - and compelling - BRAVO!

A gripping tale, a thrilling voice
I'm going to admit heresy. I did not read the source material so I'm limited to evaluating this text on its own merits, which are spectacular. It is an emotionally gripping and resonant story, filtered through a unique and specific narrative voice. It is also gloriously theatrical, as engaging as the words on the page might be, they absolutely demand being lifted into production and suggest all kinds of possibilities for fulfilling that demand. A really thrilling piece of work.

Is the sequel to be "Who Ate the Last Slice of Pie? can't wait!. (LOL)
I saw the still-original CAST in NYC in preview, and now it and the 25 year old actor in lead role are both nominated for best Play, and BestActor for TonyAwards. Have dragged my friends from out of NYC to the box office, and they all were WOW !!!!!!!!!, so I never pre-thougth to try Amazon for this near-perfect combined novel and play information...it is going to be MY SUMMER first read in my garden!Bravo!!!

Asberger thinking
Excellent onsite into the asberger mind and how it processes information, including terrors of change and absolute thinking. Excellent for anyone trying to work with an asberger child.

THIS IS THE PLAY SCRIPT NOT THE BOOK
Great story but in this case written for a play script. Didn't actually realise this when I downloaded it. Apart from that, if you don't know the story is about an autistic boy who finds a dog with a pitch fork in him & decides to investigate what happened despite his father & lots of neighbours telling him not to. While investigating he finds out that his mother, who he has been told was dead, is in fact alive & living in London. So he sets off alone to find her. It's a really beautifully written story about the life of autism & how it affects those who live with it & how difficult some very ordinary day things are for them & those they live with.

Breathtaking
Christopher is such an annoying little kid you actually end up empathising with his flaws, talents and issues. The play takes your breath away multiple times with perfect rhythm and fast-paced sections, which all come together to form a compelling family story - with all the drama that may obviously occur. And it all comes through thanks to Simon's writing and to how he crafted his characters.

Surprised that this didn't really have an impression on me
Can't help but feeling the autism in this story is a little of the Rain Man stereotype, which is a bit hackneyed in this day and age. Some good stuff about parenting, but all in all left me cold as a play.

One of my favourite theatre plays!
Saw this production as part of a college trip and I loved the fact that the main character whose autistic, as I'm autistic myself and I could relate to that. I brought this book because I chose the play for an essay at Uni at it helped a lot when it came to analysing, highlighting and just refreshing my memory of the play itself! Hope I get to see this play again!

Brilliant... but not for young audience.
Brilliant. Lots of depth and dilemma. Terrific adventure into the world as experienced by one autistic person. Great springboard for discussion and an invitation into creative staging.
