It works well.
Does exactly what it says it should do. I purchased this to interface a Mega Drive 1. to my Toshiba 65" flatscreen. It works well. The adapter needs an external 5V PSU so i just use a power bank to save messing around with another power socket. It seems to use very little energy so should last a long time between power bank charges. The picture is very good for the price. You can see and measure every pixel with ease. Initially there were quite bad vertical bars ( People call them jail bars ) running down the screen. This is an issue with the early mark one Mega Drive and not a fault of the adapter itself. A simple mod to the Mega Drive board has cleaned them up to the point were they are now unnoticeable unless you go looking. For those interested i simply shorted pin6 on IC 13 ( CXA1145 ) to ground. This mod turns the composite video black and white but it can easily be reversed by removing the short. So Yes, I recommend this product with or without the mod, it's a massive improvement on composite or RF. The converter takes the RGB-S signal from the AV port at the rear of the mega drive and converts it to 1080P HDMI. The sound on the Mark1 is only output as mono from the rear of the Mega Drive but it still sounds sweet through my AV amp. It's not worth the bother to recover stereo sound for me, but if you wanted to you could knock up some leads and do it that way.

Works brilliantly and is easy to set up
I recently tried a lead that was RGB, as the RF lead that came with my MegaDrive 2 about 30 years ago had long since stopped working. That lead really didn't give a good image, so the console and 30 odd games went back in the loft.I recently got one of those mini projectors and happened upon this cable, so I thought what a great combo that would be if it works! And oh I was not disappointed. The colour is rich and vibrant, the image is crystal clear and defined, the sound is beautifully clear. My only complaint is I've just wasted an entire Saturday afternoon playing MegaDrive games, felt like I was back in my 20s and the classic era of gaming! If you want to breath new life into that old console and rediscover all those old games, this is worth every penny and then some.

Fantastic
This is exactly what I have been looking for. It works instantly, I used a usb power bank to power it. Yes it does letterbox the display so on a 50" TV it will look more like a 40" display but the colours are spot on and the pixels are sharp. I was using a scart to hdmi converter but it was rubbish compared to this. The framerate is great and no button lag.

Great budget option to play Megadrive / Genesis on modern TV's
For the price this is a great piece of kit, being able to play original Megadrive games on original hardware on my TV is fantastic. There is the occasional flicker, but nothing too serious, and being able to switch between wide screen and 4:3 is a good feature. I compared it to an emulated version and I couldn't see any issues with colours etc.If you are expecting perfection, you'll need to spend a lot more, for the money this does the job really well.

Works but far from perfect
Image quality is good and this does work however i have noticed that the image appears in a smaller area of the screen which is off centre with black bars around the image. Tried flicking the various switches but even changing between 16:9 and 4:3 doesn't seem to correct the picture. On the basis this was 30 quid and a lot more expensive than other similar products i thought this one would be the better option but that doesn't appear to be the case.

Works brilliantly
Bought this so that I could enjoy playing my old Sega Mega Drive 2 once again. Simple to connect and, I have to say, works brilliantly.

Sub par picture quality, contrast and colour issues
I recently bought a GBS-C for my Megadrive which is my current "go-to" for converting my retro consoles to an HDMI output. I was however interested in this Kaico adapter when I saw it.Mainly for the reasons of portability, I figured with this lead I wouldn't need to lug around the GBS-C box, additional power adapter, and scart lead. It also states on the box that its a plug and play solution - so no need to mess about with setting it up from TV to TV. I duly ordered one and it arrived well packaged with the contents as described.Sadly when I plugged it in I could see the issues straight away.Firstly if your Megadrive is a 50HZ PAL model you will get a huge blank space along the top of your screen. My photos don't really demonstrate how bad it is, but it is huge....Secondly, and more importantly, the colour reproduction is shocking. If you compare the Kaico lead with output from my GBS-C, you can see it's almost like the palette is limited to a minimal set of colours. The blue in the background shown when playing Sonic revert to plain "BRIGHT" white - as do a lot of subtler shades within the characters features and the backgrounds. The Sonic 3 front screen probably demonstrates it perfectly. When trying to play in-game its just too bright with colours washed out. I tried everything in my TV's settings to get it somewhere near good but alas nothing could bring those colours back.I really did want this work, so much so that I've tried different HDMI cables, different HDMI ports, my modded megadrive with region switch, my stock PAL megadrive and I have tried it on three different makes of TV (Sony, Philips, RCA)- all bearing the same over exposed, washed out picture that does the Megadrive no justice whatsoever.I admit it's possible that the Kaico adapter I received is defective - sadly there's no option to return for a replacement - if there was I would have requested one just in case I did receive a duff one. However there's only an option to return for a refund so that's what I'll do.Overall, really disappointed in light of the good reviews that it's been given. I really was hoping this would work :-(
