Season 7, Volume 1 appears better than Season 6
The writing for Season 7 Volume 1 (Volume 2 not having been issued yet) appears to be better than what we saw in Season 6, in which some episodes Raymond Burr did not even appear. It is sad to see so fewer appearances of Ray Collins as Lt. Tragg, but his health was apparently declining considerably by then and he just couldn't do much anymore.A pleasant nuance is that in some episodes of Season 7, Vol. 1 there is also displayed an occasional renewed collegiality between District Atty Burger and Perry Mason, which is refreshing, and a nice departure from his hitherto usual "take no prisoners" and "the hell with fairness and truth" approach he seemed to have with regard to practicing law for most of the series. (Sad result of that past approach today: the numerous wrongly-convicted prisoners who are now freed from time to time due to DNA proving their innocence, only to have the former prosecutor, who is more often than not now a judge himself, be interviewed by a reporter and arrogantly offer no apology for the terrible injustice due to his likely past manipulation or hiding of exculpating evidence, but moreover proclaiming that he still feels the jury made the right decision!)It was a great television series that was first shown when I was too young to appreciate, but for which I and my wife are most grateful we can enjoy today on DVD. We have all of the seasons issued on DVD so far; and we are looking forward to Vol. 2 of Season 7 to be released in late October 2012.

At last I HAVE IT ALL! Thanks a lot, Us!
It's a long story, but worth telling. Perry Mason in black and white is part of USA movie history. I was able to buy the first two seasons in Paris, because it was never available in stores bere in Italy. It was "region 2" so i could watch it on my home tv. Then I felt the need to have all the volumes, but I couldn't find any here in Europe. So I bougbt all the available seasons through Amazon.it BUT there was only one - season 7 vol. 1- missing.S one day I pressed by chance my fi ger on Amazon. com, which,to me, meant, USA, and there IT was.So, now after almost 10 years of searching, pressing and hoping,I HAVE THE WHOLE SEASONS AND I CAN WATCH THEM IN PEACE. As for the movies themselves, they are a "portrait of 60s USA in black-and-white". What actually gives me the real thrill is not so much the killing and the discovering of the guilty. It is the many portraits of human nature, a car moving slowly on a country dusty road, the L.A. boulevards and the wealth that pervades the whole series as far as homes, cars ,peoples and clothes are concerned. More, the dialogues provide a proficient course in the American English.

Can never get enough Perry Mason
As will all the Perry Mason shows, this set is wonderful. The story lines, the cast, the classic cars, architecture, interior/exterior decorating and furniture, and the fashions of the day bring back so many memories. There was only one problem with this set, the supporting cast credits of Season 8, Episode 22: "The Case of The Sad Sicilian" which aired Thursday, March 11, 1965 on CBS were run as the supporting cast credits of Season 7, Episode 1: "The Case of the Nebulous Nephew" which aired Thursday, September 26, 1963 on CBS. Someone must have hit the wrong button somewhere along the line. I would be very interested to know if anyone else noticed this hiccup. This show featured Beulah Bondi and Meg Wyllie as the sweet, lace-encrusted aunts and Hugh Marlowe as the disgusting villain--another Perry Mason episode at its very best--with the exception of the erroneous cast credits at the end of Episode 1! I did not notice any other problems with this set.

ANOTHER KNOCK-OUT LINE UP
If you have time, you might want to take a look at my reviews of previous seasons to see how much I adore these box sets. This one is no exception. Terrific value! However, I can say that each episode is like a short film, courtroom dramas with fiendishly clever plots and great teamwork between Raymond Burr as the famous attorney Perry Mason, Barbara Hale as his loyal assistant and William Talman as the crusty DA who can never match Perry's skill and wit in the courtroom. I intend to collect the whole lot, from 1958 to the later Sixties, although for me, the first two seasons are the best. Great prints too!

Della sports a new haircut. Looks gorgeous. Roy Collins (Lt.Tragg) still listed in the credits but rarely appears. He passed on in July 1965, which was during the early part of the 9th season. Familier actor faces keep appearing, some for the second or third time. Good stories, acting and good entertainment. Have ordered and received all the 8th season. Just the final season to aquire and eventually the 13 double feature Perry Mason DVDs made by Burr from 1985 until his death in 1993.Kind regards David Barton-Smith
