Q: Will this hold a curved soprano sax?

Yes it will. That's what I use it for. Just understand that it holds it in an odd position from other stands. Seems more suited for home display more than stage. I like it and think it's clever and handy.

Q: What material is in contact with the bell? It looks like metal.

Yes it is metal but it never scratched my soprano which has high gloss black lacquer and is a curved Yanigisawa soprano bell. It sits perfectly on top of my keyboard rig for easy access on songs where it’s needed.
