This Device does exactly what it's supposed to do!
I have a completely hyper, headstrong little dog. He hears things that I don't hear and it immediately sets him off barking. I've tried every kind of training technique there is and admittedly he has gotten a better but still sometimes he just explodes out of a deep sleep on the couch and starts barking hysterically because of something he hears. Not only does it scare the heck out of me when he does it, it's SUPER annoying! In addition, he sometimes doesn't listen still. Many of the problems he exhibits, he already had when he came to me as a stray.I bought this little gadget and wow! This thing works great! I don't even have to point it at him most of the time. My dog must have extraordinarily sensitive hearing. At any rate it does exactly what it says it will do. It interrupts his hyper focused brain and stops his barking immediately. I always give him a command to stop barking before I use it. I have decided to keep it as hidden as possible because I don't want him to associate the device with the sound. Rather, I want him to think that if he doesn't obey me when I tell him to stop that I can somehow magically make this unpleasant sound happen. That way I hope to avoid what many reviewers on here talk about when they say their dog sees the device and immediately stops barking. I think that defeats the entire purpose of training. I want my dog to think that I am the source of all things and therefore he should obey me when I give a command. I had previously used a vibrating electronic collar which worked great except that eventually my dog realized that he only had to obey when he was wearing the collar. I didn't like to have the collar on him all day long as it has two little prongs that seem rather uncomfortable to me, in addition to the fact that again, I want him to obey me and not just because he's wearing a collar. This device solves that problem and I believe will help me achieve the last leg of his training. So far, it's perfect!

Different dogs, different responses
This device is fantastic and has completely changed the behavior of our "troubled" dog. We previously used a vibrating collar device that had to be frequently charged and (obviously) had to be on the dog. Not only does this device hold a charge, but it's so inexpensive that we bought four of them so one is always within reach. He can hear it from very far away, but it is highly directional. Point it in the right direction! That said, our other dog is COMPLETELY oblivious to the sound. So I think it's a dog-by-dog evaluation for if/how they'll respond to the sound. If it doesn't work for your dog, I wouldn't write off the device entirely. Give your dog the 1 star review :-)

Better than Dazer
Back in the 90s, when I was commuting by bike a lot, I used to swear by a gizmo called Dazer when it came to unleashed dog encounters. Oddly enough, they're still around, and their second generation is still ugly, overpriced, unergonomic and stupidly bulky. But not this "magic wand"!At less than 1/3 of the cost of Dazer, you get a compact rechargeable device with vibration feedback (so you know it's working… something you couldn't tell with Dazer), "safety" switch (really useful feature, given the "hair trigger" of a main button) and a focusing cone. The latter may not look like much, but these things work, it's not a marketing gimmick. This device produces 80-90 dBA when measured right next to the emitter, so it's safe.A few tips:– If you want to use it as a clicker to train your dog, do not activate the device for longer than it takes to press and release the button. A 90 dB, especially indoors, is akin to loud yelling, so (just like with "conventional" yelling) don't overdo it. Experiment to find the optimal duration for indoor and outdoor settings.– Just like aforementioned Dazer, this device works on most dogs, but not all of them. I'm pretty sure that all dogs can hear it just fine, but some are either desensitized by living in noisy environment, being regularly yelled at, or just neurologically equipped to ignore it.– With that in mind, if you want to use an ultrasonic "siren" like this one to stop a dog attack… first, make sure you have a plan B in case you're dealing with one of the dogs that don't care for an ultrasonic "siren". Get ready to deliver a kick, grab a brick or stick, etc. Turn on the device by sliding the switch to "on" position, but don't press the button yet. Wait till the dog is about 10 ft away. Yes, they can hear it from 30 or even 50 feet, but you'll lose the shock factor. Once the dog is 10 ft or closer – press and hold the button while pointing the device directly at the dog's head. Important: release the button once the dog runs away! Otherwise it will adjust its target from "human" to "screaming human" and may attack again. I don't know exactly how it works in the dog's head, but from my experience, barking "don't come any closer" with your ultrasonic device works much better than constant screaming, so to speak.– Please don't play with this thing around dogs and cats, only activate it when there's a need for a vocal (although inaudible to the human ear) punishment. For this very reason, keep it away from children, this is not a toy. Imagine a kid running amok while playing with a "rape whistle" alarm. Not a pleasant thought? That's what it'll be like for your pets if a kid gets a hold of this device.

Does Not Work
Does not work! Bought because I have a neighbor with a tiny dog that barks at everything, so f×××king annoying, can't spend any time in my back yard without hearing a a hight pitched bark and the city won't do anything about it, okay I vented. So yeah, I went right up to the dog and pointed this thing at them and pressed the button, did nothing. Tried it on my brother's dogs and they didn't respond either, tried it in my friends dogs they also didn't react. Just a piece of junk, wish I would of kept the box and gave it less time so I could return it.

Dog device
This item came on time and well packaged. But it was ok to use on the animals for training. But on dogs that have a large head really doesn’t work on very well so be careful it may just irritate them and then they may charge at you and bite you, so be careful. Other than that it does work ok on cats, i was surprised how sensitive the cats are to it, but it works to deter them and prevent them from doing what they shouldn’t do.

Misleading
I bought this intentionally for a very unruly puppy who doesn't respond to any positive conditional behavior training. He is an aggressive biter and barker. He is under 6 months so I wanted to try this out because it said it works for all ages. That is not true. Once I received it and read the owner's manual it clearly says not for puppies under 6 months.
